Summary Good, with an asterix... (April 24, 2009)

Reviewer's Comments

I don't why this in the sealant category, it's just a synthetic polymer wax. Not a sealant per se. Wrong category for sure.

As a wax, I tried it on 2 cars - my new Mazdaspeed3 and my wife's 2005 Lexus SC430. The Mazda didn't need any polish step since it was new and was detailed just a few weeks before I removed the dealer wax with Dawn Ultra. Put 2 coats on. The result was ok but disappointing. Nothing special. Most of it came off with my first weekly hand wash. Moved on to high end products.

But I still had a full can of this and the matching quick detailer. My wife had a car wash "detail" her Lexus. They swirled the hell out of it and whatever wax they used looked like cooking oil.

So, I did a pass with Meguiar's new Ultimate Compound (great stuff btw), then 2 passes with their swirl remover. That mostly fixed the problem and the car was nice and bright with better color. So I figured what the heck, I'll finish off the NXT on her car. Put 2 coats on, by hand.

The result was fantastic. Her car is a dark metallic blue and it just looked magnificent. However: we both park our cars on the street so my routine is to wash them by hand every week for 3 weeks, then take them to the commercial hand wash place to get the interior cleaned as well on week 4 (I don't do interiors!), then I wax them.

Anyway, after the first hand wash the wax was still on there somewhere but the look and feel were gone - after 1 gentle wash with one of their own products! Bummer. But it was quickly restored with the NXT quick detailer! So on her car, car washes are a 2 step process every week.

The best part is that since I couldn't remove all the swirls the hamfisted "pro" guy caused, NXT does a very good job of hiding them.

So, if you have a dark blue car and don't mind using QD after every wash, this is a great looking product, for something you can buy at Pep Boys, anyway. It looks better than whatever the dealer used when they prepped the car the day she bought it, and is much better than whatever the "pro" guy hosed it with. She gets comments on it all the time now, never did before.

Summary Good product on white (September 10, 2008)

Reviewer's Comments

I achieved a deep, glossy shine on my white '87 Benz SL, which I had been unable to get with another product that shall remain nameless. I think the difference this time is that I was consistent with what I used: polished with Meg's #83, then used Show Car Glaze #7, THEN applied the NXT 2.0 the next day. I did see some streaking on the hood and deck lid, but I found if I changed mf cloths frequently when wiping off the 2.0, this problem went away. The car is garaged so I have not tried a carnuba product [maybe #26] on top of 2.0, but I'd like to try just to see how it works. Overall, I'm happy with the product and the results. I was surprised how hard it was to find in my area. I ended up at an Autozone to get it.

Summary My favorite! (September 5, 2008)

Reviewer's Comments

The new NXT 2.0 is the best synthetic i have used. It makes the paint on my Mustang very slick. It was rained on the other day and I couldn't belive how clean it looked after the rain and I hadn't waxed it since MAy (garage kept car). Durability was an issue with the original but has definitely improved with the 2.0

Summary ok product (December 8, 2007)

Reviewer's Comments

This product is extremely easy to use. But I thought the shine it gave was rather poor. I have two gold cars and it really didnt give much more shine than a wash would. It offers good protection though. This is a reasonable product but I don't really recommend it. If you are going to buy something in the NXT line buy the car wash.

Summary not for everybody (March 3, 2005)

Reviewer's Comments

in spite of the heading this is a pretty good prduct-a touch grabby during application but easy off-very nice shine after application-my bottle had a lot of oil globs in it-this might be where the shine comes from-the shine does diminish but the protective film IMO stays for a long time-probably longer than most think-the best feature is the sharp, deep relections- the negatives include whiting out in harsh sunlight and a plasticky look on some colors(teal)-on pewter mettallic it looks much better

Summary Good but overhyped. (February 16, 2005)

Reviewer's Comments

Hype can severely affect a product reputation. Meguiars NXT is one of them. While a great product, it is not the miracle item that hype made it to be.

I don't mind the bottle, but I am not crazy about it. Smell is like citrus, application is very easy (however mothers reflections is still easier) and the looks, the looks. It looks great, the richest for a sealant in red and darks, very deep and shiny. Decent swirl marks filling ability. The downside is its durability. 2 washes and slickness is gone, 4 washes and beading is almost gone. The beautiful look diminishes quickly It seems it still protects, but the perception of durability is severily affected.

A great wax, but the competition matches or beats it for a lower price. At $15 it is twice as expensive as the turtle wax platinum ultra gloss and 50% more expensive than eagle one nanowax or mothers reflections. Its durability is not the best in that bunch either. I tried, I liked it. A gold class on steroids.

Summary mediocre (December 4, 2004)

Reviewer's Comments

I found NXT to have decent durability. For me, I'm happy as long as it can last a couple months. I don't usually let a product go for more than 4-6 weeks anyway, so the wax/sealant doesn't really have to last any longer than that.
I had some very nice reflections from NXT. The beading was very good, but did diminish over time.

NXT is OK. For the price, I would rather have a bottle of 4* UPP instead.

Summary Great Product (September 17, 2004)

Reviewer's Comments

I used this product on my Black Ford Focus and I really liked it. It shined up nicely. I topped it with #16 and I could read my SONUS Foam Pad Kit instruction sheet in the reflection. It has held up to a few washes and countless QD's. I will continue to use this product. I also use this on friends and relatives vehicles.

Summary Not the best for metallic (July 31, 2004)

Reviewer's Comments

I had heard all the hype about NXT Tech Wax and was pleased to find it at Target; I bought the Tech Wax, Wash, Tech Protectant and Booster Wax.

The wax smells good, as does the entire NXT line. It goes on pretty easily and comes off pretty well...I did the whole car and waited about 30 minutes before removing. Word to the wise...it comes off much better than the spray/booster wax. I did everything by hand after washing with the NXT wash (nice smell & good value, BTW), then used the Mother's clay bar. I wish I had polished the paint before applying the wax, but you live & learn. The NXT would have taken some of the polish off, but I had to redo the rear quarter panel to remove a scratch...it looked much better with Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner & Deep Crystal Polish to prep the paint.

Silver isn't the easiest color to make look great however I was very pleased for the first week or so. I applied the spray booster wax after each wash (word to the wise...it is easier to just apply another coat of the Tech Wax). After some rain & 2 washes in the first week and a half the silver started to white out a bit. The Lunar Mist Metallic on my Solara is a very metallic silver. It looked great from a distance, but you couldn't see the sparkle.

On another color, this wax may be a great value...but not for me. It still beads up nicely and I'm sure it is protecting okay because it has 3 coats of booster wax on it.

I'm going to start over & reclay w/ Sonus, use Sonus Paint Cleanser & the Klasse twins...then Pinnacle Signature...maybe I just had to spend some money, LOL.

Summary Great product. (July 31, 2004)

Reviewer's Comments

I decided to try NXT since so many people use it, and it's readily available at pretty much any auto parts store.

It comes in a uniquely shaped purple squeeze bottle which works well and looks pretty cool. Instructions are adequate.

NXT is one of the easiest sealants to apply and remove. I tried with the included foam applicator, and with my PC with a finishing pad. The product spreads evenly with little to no effort, and the same for removal.

Slickness is excellent, and like many other sealants/waxes, the slickness increases after sitting for a little while.

Durability seems pretty good, I used it on my mom's hood 2-3 months ago, and it is still beading very well.

This product meets all manufacturer claims, and you can't beat the value for a locally available sealant like this!

Summary Fantasic, but!... (July 9, 2004)

Reviewer's Comments

Ease of Use, Slickness, Gloss & Finish, and Value are all outstanding! This last step product is fantastic, but it is not, by any stretch of one's imagination, a one step or cure-all product. First of all, I'd recommend a sealant under NXT to increase the smoothness of the reflection from the paint. For instance, with 5 coats of Zaino on the finish a coat of NXT looks breathtaking. Reflection, depth, color, and contrast are all greatly increased. Dark colored cars look more mirror-like with NXT than with anything else I've seen.

For lighter and fleck-filled colors I'd recommend another product like PS21.

Summary Gateway product? (June 26, 2004)

Reviewer's Comments

Well. . .I like it, despite the rating it got. I am no expert or hardcore detailer, just an enthusiast, so take what I say with that in mind.

Packaging: I dislike the ricey-pretense style packaging that Meguiars went with, but the bottle itself is ergonomic. I hate that old style dispenser lid though.

Ease of use: My product experience is limited, but when applied with 10" random orbit buffer, this product applied easily. Buff off with Terrycloth or microfiber was SMOOTH. Smoothest I've ever used.

Slickness: also the best I've ever experienced, however I can't give it high marks because I don't know about its durability yet.

Gloss&finish: I was very impressed. Shiniest product I've ever used. I don't own alot of fancy or new cars as many other members do. Most of my projects are on 8 year old finishes AT LEAST. I gave this stuff a torture test and used it on a red paint surface with a failed (peeled off) clear coat. This paint was on the roof of a 91 Chevy s10 in Georgia, so you know it got some sun. Paint was so abused it could be rubbed off onto your fingers.

I applied product, and it lifted some paint during application. After letting sit for about 10, i buffed down. No paint came off the buffer and you can't rub the paint off anymore. It added a deep, low gloss shine to the paint. Very impressive for such a damaged, non idea surface. but it was uneven so I hit it with a 2nd coat to balance it out.

It has yet to lose luster, bead, or rub off on the fingers after 4 months.

I would use this product in place of Gold Class if you're a beginner or you like Meguiars stuff. It surpasses it in durability and in application while still maintaining a killer shine. I think this is a good 'gateway' product because it can show you just how good a detail job can be with good time and product.

Summary reviews are accurate (June 19, 2004)

Reviewer's Comments

Generally speaking, this NXT fan believes that the bulk of the reviews are spot on. This is a very nice product, available at your local big box store. The initial appearance is downright stunning, but doesn't last real long. My guess is that the PROTECTION lasts a long time, but the GLOSS fades quickly, hence the existence of the NXT Spray Wax, which quickly restores the initial beauty.

Some of us wax very frequently, and for us, this product will be fine. Or, for those of us who work solely on our own cars, NXT and the NXT Spray Wax will also be fine. If you detail other peoples' cars for a living, though, this product may not fit your needs; or if you prefer a product that maintains both its protection AND gloss/appearance, again this product may not be right for you.

Nevertheless, its appearance for the first couple-three weeks is as good as any you'll find, with a very alluring combination of reflectivity, depth, gloss, and jetting. If that's right for you, then get the NXT and a bottle of the spray wax, and don't look back.
