Summary Proved Me Wrong! (February 7, 2006)

Reviewer's Comments

First and foremost- I feel compelled to offset the negative ratings of this wash by giving the Suds and Free Rinsing categories maximum ratings. We all know by now that QEW does not sud and you do not rinse it, therefore it is asinine to have these categories negating the value of this product. With that aside, I agree with a previous review the two-bucket method is essential for this product and should be included in the directions. Otherwise I am very pleased with the value of this product. It does everything it claims it will do. If I had to cut any aspect of this product the fragrance would be my main gripe. I found it somewhat unpleasant, but admittedly it is very mild (I find myself too often sniffing car chemical products!) My hands have not dried out even in the driest winter air while using this product. Super environmentally friendly and made in the USA- I love it!

Summary Very efficient (October 3, 2005)

Reviewer's Comments

Well geared towards when you don't have time for a bucket and hose wash. Removes dirt quite well, and comes off very easy. Works great on waxed or sealed cars. If the paint is really dirty, I do suggest at least wetting down the surface before doing the wash. Wash a panel at a time, and just wipe off to dry. Doesn't

get any easier than that.

Summary Very handy to have around (March 22, 2005)

Reviewer's Comments

First off, My ratings ended up being low, but I think highly of the product. Suds, in particular, dropped the total quite a bit. With that out of the way....

I really like this stuff!! For someone living in an apartment or going camping (its original intended purpose, I guess) it's great!! No hose needed for pre-spraying nor rinsing. You can do a car with only 2-3 gallons of water (some may use even less! I tend to use a little more so as to have "enough" rinse water to dissipate the dirt better).

One thing about the bottle instructions, they don't mention having a separate bucket to rinse the mitt in. I think this is something one should consider using. Less chance of bringing the dirt back to the paint, I think.

You use 1 oz. per gallon of water to make the wash solution. It doesn't foam up. It doesn't have any strong/overpowering scent. I found that when applying it, it tends to sheet off very quickly. It doesn't "pool" on the car.

After a wash with QEW, I usually wipe the car down with a qd, so any water trails are cleared up.

I still like to use a regular wash, but I have found that in the winter (when you have a few hours of "around freezing" weather) using QEW doesn't freeze up the locks/doors as much as a wash bay wash can.

As an aside, I have also found their online support to be helpful in answering questions. In general, a nice experience.

Available online and at some camping/rv places. Internationally, even!

Summary Efficient (March 18, 2005)

Reviewer's Comments

I was a bit skeptical when I tried this product the first time, but after the second time I am really starting to like it. It's because it is such an unconventional way of washing that you have to get used to it.

There are no hoses and no suds. You dry each panel directly after washing. You take a lot of rinsing steps out of the whole car wash routine.

From filling the buckets to the last panel wipe down it took me less than 40 minutes. If you are doing this for money and time is an issue, QEW is an efficient way to speed up your details.

Another issue is water conservation. I used about 3 gallons and if you live in an apartment this works well for you.

Many Autopians have converted from the traditional wash to QEW and I can see why. I've even seen it used on some pretty soiled cars. However, I'm still partial to the ritual of the suds and hose routine, but who knows, I do like to switch things up sometimes.

Summary Excellent Product! (February 25, 2005)

Reviewer's Comments

This is one of my favorite products!

As a disclaimer...the fact that this product doesn't earn 5 stars is due to the nature of this product. This is completely unique, and the rating criteria does not reflect that.

Suds...this product doesn't sud at all-but it's not supposed to. That's not what is was designed to do, and it cleans fine without them.

Cleaning power...I think it cleans fine-it's not meant to be able to tackle a mud-runner, and it has it's limits. Once again, I don't think it was designed to clean something extremely dirty.

Now that those points are out of the way, anyone who's new to QEW may be slightly apprehensive. It's unlike any product you've tried, but it's magical! The way it emulsifies dirt into little water droplets is amazing!

Materials:
-QEW 32 oz. (16 oz. and Gallon sizes also avail.)
-3 1/2 to 4 gallons of water (depending on size of vehicle)
-2 Large Buckets
-100% Sheepskin Wash Mitt (some like to use 2-they let one sit in the rinse bucket while using the other, then switch)
-Waffle Weave Drying Towel (I suggest 2, see below)
-Spray Bottle (optional, see below)

I simply mix 3 capfuls of QEW with 1 1/2 to 2 gallons of water in a bucket and 2 gallons of plain water in another bucket. The water will look the same in the mixed bucket, but dipping your hand in it you'll notice that's it's more slippery than water-quite slick. Dip the wash mitt in the QEW mixture and get it full of the solution. Select a panel or two on your vehicle (such as the hood) and just put the wash mitt on the dry, yes dry, panel and let the weight of the mitt and the QEW solution gently encapsulate the dirt. Go over the whole panel, then I like to flip the mitt to the clean side and go over it again to really pick up all of the dirty water droplets. Put your mitt in the other rinse bucket and let it sit while you dry the panel with a waffle weave drying towel. They work the best, and I don't suggest using a water blade since there may be some dirt in the water droplets you'll see on the panel. But using a waffle weave works very well and prevents scratching.

Continue around the rest of the vehicle with the same method. As your waffle weave towel becomes more soaked, follow up the waffle weave with another microfiber towel to prevent water spotting.

NOTES:
-If your vehicle is dirtier than usual and has a little more soiling, consider filling a high-volume spray bottle with water and QEW (proper ratio), then spray it on the panel before taking the mitt to it. It acts as a pre-soak and helps prevent scratching.
-As when washing conventionally, wash the vehicle top to bottom. This ensures clean water until the bottom panels, which are usually the most soiled.
-I experienced leaking from my 32 oz. bottle, and I think it came from the cap, which doesn't screw on tight enough and just doesn't feel right. I'm not sure if all bottles are like this, or if it's just mine. It's all hard to pour because of the shape of the bottle.

QEW doesn't strip wax or sealants and doesn't add any of it's own protection. It's an awesome product when water availability is low or it's too cold outside to wash your vehicle the regular way. Some folks use this year round and find it a great alternative to regular washing. It's safe and effective, and I have yet to experience any QEW induced marring.
