I purchased this product with complete confidence about 3-4 weeks ago. I went based on reviews made others on Autopia that it was a quality product and capable of the daily grind.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. After one or two polishing sessions, this polisher went into sick mode. It made all kinds of strange noises and sparked inside the motor where the vents are located. Then, one day, smoke poured out of the machine.
Contacted Flex and they seemed confused and told me they never had an issue with overheating with the Flex 3401. Well, I didn't own a 3401, I owned a 3403. They also didn't promise a replacement, which I expected. I was expected to ship it to the U.S. at my own cost and also incur any potential border duties or taxes on its way back.
I purchased a Dewalt DW849 while the 3403 was on the mend. I am quite satisfied with it. The Dewalt is a much better built machine and will certainly last me a few years. I will be using it for now on.

With the Griot's Garage Polish and Wax System, there is no safer or easier way to remove swirl marks, fine scratches, and apply a protective coating to your paint. Not by wool pads, not by cotton bonnets, not by hand. The problem with the old way of using wool or cotton pads and non-orbital (straight drive) polishers, is that the cutting action was so great that it produced its own heat and swirl marks, burned through the color coat, and damaged the paint. By following the detailed instructions that are included or watching the process with our Machine Polishing DVD, you can polish and wax your car quickly and safely. The results will astound you. What makes it so easy? Our specially engineered Foam Pads, unique Machine Polishes and the Griot's Garage Random Orbital Machine! The problem with other machine polishes is that they have been formulated for non-orbiting machines and are made to work under high heat conditions. With our polishes, the first thing you'll notice is how cool the paint remains. This, combined with the proper foam pads and the machine's unique orbital pattern, eliminates the chance of you accidentally burning your paint. Our hook and loop Foam Pads are 6" in diameter. Start with the Orange Foam Pad if you're going to be removing swirl marks with our polishes or One-Step Sealant. Use the softer and gentler Red Foam Pad for waxing with our Best of Show Wax, Carnauba Wax or Paint Sealant.
