    Where did the dressing go?

Ok well as many of you may have read and seen, I gave my car its first engine detail 2 weeks ago (I think). I used Poorboy`s TR on flat plastic and sprayed hard to reach areas with Stoner`s Trim Shine.

Now I know many products don`t last that long and aren`t meant to. Poorboy`s Trim Restorer is a durable dressing that when used on other surfaces, seem to last a heck of a long time as long as theres no rain or such. Stoner`s Trim Shine is a solvent based dressing and has also been noted to last a long time, given to water comes in contact too. But after one week the shine was less and now 2 weeks later it just looks completely flat. Still looks nice, but very very flat.

Is this normal when it comes to engine dressing? Are there products that with stand and last more to the higher heat temperature?

    Thanks Guys

I would not expect it to last long in a hot enigne compartment... What do I know though??? Have you tried Adam`s detail spray? I may last longer.

I`m surprised that the PB`s TR didn`t last longer than that. IMO you need to get yourself down to Autozone to get some CD2 Engine Detailer ASAP! CD2 seems to last forever.

I went. I`ve passed by autozone, pepboys, and advance and all I find for engine care is Engine Bright Cleaner.

Thats odd that id didnt last long, maybe give another dressing a shot. I always got really deep shine, pretty long lasting too from meguars #40, which you can find at the above mentioned stores.

Re: Where did the dressing go?

Since I have only used a product such as 303 under the hood, I`m not at all familiar with CD2, but....
Seeing as how Meguiar`s dropped their Engine Kote and evidently didn`t replace it with a new product and CD2 seems to be disappearing, maybe there is a reason for this.
Would the long term use of a product that seems to coat the engine components cause a problem? Maybe it builds up and retains heat. Maybe it builds up and starts to peel and look bad after some time.

Probably the real reason the products are not available is lack of sales.

or maybe it`s rough on rubber is what I am thinking, but it sure looks great ,and holds up great.I think it would be a great product to use right after cleaning the engine and then top when needed with 303 or your favorite non earesol dressing.

Re: Where did the dressing go?

I`m thinking you have a few things happening here... because of where you are located, Florida, being a bit more humid and having more salt in the air , dressing won`t last as long on hot parts, then there is the matter of some senors being sensative to some dressings and some mfgs may be pulling or not stocking these items due to complaints. Also I`ve seen in the past that some types of hoses don`t seem to hold dressings well as the same can be said about some types of tires..
life is short ..do it while you can

Re: Where did the dressing go?

I think you should think about something along the lines of CD-2 Engine Detailer which hardens and creates a shell over the surface.

I have had luck with products like TR, AA, BnB, etc, but CD-2 has lasted the longest.
