    The Informed Consumer: Realistic Expectations

    The Informed Consumer: Realistic Expectations

    Advancement:
The world of professional detailing has evolved and come a long way since its early days.
Knowledge and education in the application of products, tools, and techniques has progressed to a whole new level of understanding.
Today’s science and technology in products, tools, and machines has directly benefited professional detailing offering results not previously possible.

    Specified Service:
No industry, however, is without its limitations.
Professional detailing is no different than any other.
There are things that professional detailing can and cannot do.
It is important to understand the difference between professional detailing and professional repair.
Both can fall under the same umbrella of services offered by various professional detailers.

There is a distinct difference between cleaning, treating, finishing, and protecting vs restoring, repairing, and replacing.
What services offered by a professional detailer depends on what experience and skill level the professional detailer has.
It can also depend on what services the professional detailer chooses to offer, no matter how muck experience and skill they have.
It is possible to have all your needs met, both detailing and repair, in one shop or by one mobile detailing company.
It is not always the case, so make sure you research before choosing the business that best suits your specific needs.

Condition of Vehicle and Accurate Assessment:
There are many factors that can mask the current condition of your vehicle.
Waxes, sealants with heavy concentrations of silicone`s and solvents, and glazes with fillers.
Even washing the vehicle with tap water laden with mineral contaminants, can mask evidence of existing damage.
They do so by filling in imperfections such as scratches and swirl marks, as well as microscopic pitting on the surface panel.
They can also make quality control issues in body panel surfaces less noticeable.

It is possible a customer can mistake pre-existing damage for the appearance of new damage committed by the detailer.
This creates a no win situation for both the customer and the professional detailer.
While such imperfections may be able to be addresses and taken care of, doing so may require a higher level of service not covered in the price structure of a lesser service.
The best finishing results begin with an accurate assessment of the vehicle’s condition by both the customer and the professional detailer.

    Realistic Expectations:
While professional detailing can produce amazing results, it is important to have realistic expectations given the specific services contracted and the realistic condition of the vehicle.
The more informed the consumer is on both accounts, the better the professional detailer can serve the needs of their customer.

The professional detailer wants happy customers.
The consumer wants to get what they pay for.
Each requires clear communication from both parties to ensure a favorable result.

Yeah, a bit of preaching to the choir.
A society willing to trade liberty for temporary security deserves neither and will lose both

The OP is intended for anyone that finds it beneficial.
Many consumers as well as non professional detailers use forums for researching the auto detail industry.
Forums are not just a house for shop talk among established professionals.
Forums are intended to be centers of reference, offering useful information.
Information that is accessible to all demographics, not just a single demographic.
