I Suppose I Should Introduce Myself

    Hello all,

I`ve been lurking around here for a while now, and figured I should introduce myself.

My name`s Pat, and I live in SW PA. I`ve been a gearhead all my life, and have been interested in detailing since I had my first car at 16. Unfortunately I`ve never really had a car worth detailing until last month when I picked up a brand new 2016 Fiesta SE. I immediately started looking into how to protect and maintain my investment, and found myself here.

I have quickly learned that there are way better options out there then my old Armor All/Meguiar`s routine I`ve used in the past. I`ve since purchased some items from Adam`s as well as a Mystery Box from here. Come tax time, I`ll be investing in a DA kit (leaning towards the GG6/GG3 combo here) and a quality 2 bucket wash kit and wheel and tire kit, plus a truck load of microfibers and pads. I`d like to say I`m covered on the interior, but I can already see where this new addiction is going to go, so I`m sure I`ll be adding to that as well .

I hardly ever hit these "New Member" threads, but you caught my attention with the "1976" in your user-name...same year I got my driver`s license.

BTW, getting ahead of things here, I`d skip that GG3 if I were you. When you`re ready to buy we can discuss such stuff to death

Thanks, Accumulator! I don`t mind getting into it now . I`m figuring I`ll be pulling the trigger within a month on a DA, so I`m very much in the research phase right now.

I brought up the GG3/GG6 combo as it`s pretty reasonably priced and I like having the option of the smaller one for tighter areas. However, it looks like the 6 is available with a 3" BP, so that may render the 3 redundant.

My biggest requirements are durability, ability to correct, and minimal vibration. I`m not planning on detailing for a living (I already have two jobs, so no time for a third!), but between my household, my brother and SIL and my parents, we`ve got 8 cars and an RV, so any thing I get is going see a bit of a workout.

My SIL has already begged me to detail her Subie, which is pretty swirled, and my folks want me to do their Caliber, which is in much better shape. I`m also dying to see what I can do on my wife`s severely neglected black Durango, although I don`t have high hopes for that one.

So I`m very open to suggestions for a DA that`ll meet my needs.

I`m not a fan of the gg3" either it`s power is lacking compared to the gg6". My 3" go to polisher is now the rupes mini bit pricier but oh does it do some serious work

I was at Detail Fest and demo`d a GG3 on a car or a hood they had there. I asked the guy from Griots if there were any plans to revamp it, because a lot of people say its underpowered.

He said that he never heard anyone say that before me.

    Lolz.

path1976- That additional info about your situation makes me even more certain that the Boss15, which is becoming my Standard Recommendation despite my never having used one (!), would be the way to go.

The 3" GG *pneumatic* is OK if you have air power, but I won`t go farther than "OK" and I look forward to retiring it now that I have the Rupes Mini.

And yeah, a smaller backing plate on the GG6 works fine if you go that route instead of the Boss15.

FWIW, I don`t do this stuff professionally either..have two fewer cars than you do to take care of..but I *NEVER* regret buying the best polisher I can afford for the work I`ll be doing. I *have* regretted buying "not enough polisher"

    SwanicYouth- LOLZ indeed...
