Rupes 15 VS Mark II

Is it worth getting the Mark II over the older one and spending an extra 100. I use it mostly on personal/family cars. Gonna try to start getting some jobs from other people. that extra 100 can buy some other stuff to stock up on.

I think so. Unless you`re just using it to wax cars, then a Mark I is fine. But I highly recommend the Mark II.

I`ve still got the "Legacy" Rupes 15 and don`t have any problems. But I also have the Mini, 21, and Nano to cover all the bases. I really never had big stalling issues. With microfiber pads and low profile pads today you could run them on a low powered Porter Cable and get great correction results. Saying all that, you might as well upgrade to the MKII unless you get a great deal on a used Legacy Rupes.

I`ve been using the old school 7424, and microfiber pads make a huge difference on it. I like using my Rupes stuff, but that PC is so easy to use that I just end up using that most times.

I bought the 5" backing plate that goes to 15 but fits on 21 so I can use all the 5&6" pads I have

Rupes does not recommend using the 5 inch backing plate with the 21, but it is pretty common on the forums. Rupes says it causes vibrations that may effect performance and longetivity of the machine. If I had to only buy one it would be the 15. The 21 with the 7 inch pads speeds up work on large flat surfaces, but the 15 goes most everywhere easier.

IF you already have a HF polisher with a 5 or 6 inch backing plate (hopefully both) then maybe the Rupes mini (LHR 75E) would be the best choice. I`ve really been loving mine more and more every job that I use it on. It`s got amazing power, never bogs, and the Lake Country HD Orbital 3 inch pads have a 3.5 or 4 inch face so I usually end up using it on the majority of the cars. I went and quoted/booked a Porsche last night and as I was inspecting each small panel, I kept thinking to myself that most of the car will be corrected using the LHR 75E.

I remember someone asking if there would be a Mini MKII, no more power is needed in that bad boy. It never stalls. I love mine with Megs microfiber pads (they discontinued them). I looks like LC is going to have a line of microfiber pads with a little more cushioning, but I like the lightweight Meg`s microfiber pads. AG has a giveaway going on for the new pads, got my fingers crossed, I can`t seem to win anything on Autopia. Microfiber pads make low powered DA polishers relevant again (HF or PC).
