    PC 7424XP Issue

    Hey Guys,

I feel dumb for asking this, but here it goes...

I purchased a Porter Cable 7424xp a couple years ago. I never had the chance to use it until tonight for the 1st time. Well it wont turn on. It been stored inside, never dropped, no marks even on it, i even just unwrapped the cord for the 1st time. Am i missing something? or is it because it sat for to long. I just recently purchased an interior brush for it through Autopia and wanted to remove all this dog slobber from my truck...lol

Strange. Tap it with a small hammer, maybe it has froze up from sitting. I really don`t have a clue. Usually the only thing that goes wrong with a PC is brushes, but yours never ran, soooooo maybe someone with more experience will chime in.

Since it`s already out of warranty, I think I`d take a look at the brushes and see if they`ve developed a light corrosion and are "frozen" to the armature. Sometimes you can hardly see this. If this happens to be the case typically you can rotate the motor it will disturb the patena (for lack of a better word) and it will run. Look up the procedure for changing brushes on YouTube, this isn`t difficult and you won`t need to replace them but just moving them around might be all it needs.

I knew someone smarter than me would have an idea. It almost has to be the brushes. Let us know the outcome in case it happens to someone else.

I agree its probably just stuck. Rotate the head to move the motor by hand (don`t spin the backing plate, actually make sure you spin the whole spindle/counter weight). Once its moving freely it should work fine.

Also I would check your power outlet, or plug the machine into a power outlet that you know works. Many people have called in and tried to use a polisher on a bad outlet. Sometimes it is the simple things. Good luck! Keep us updated!

Best wishes recovering from knee surgery. I`ve had 4. First one at 14 for a broken kneecap and 3 clean ups over the next 40 years. I`m past due for a clean up. Take care.
