    Meguiar`s MT300 Power Cord Issue

Well I was in the midst of polishing my garage queen to prep it for a coating and the MT300 bit the dust. It literally died on me while using it on the driver side fender. It stopped spinning. The sad thing is I was only able to use it on 4 cars. This would have been the 5th.

I soon realized that it would only turn on at certain angles. For example when it`s upside down lol. Check out the video.

This is not a rant but I am putting this out there for those who have had or may have this issue. Hopefully this is not a bigger problem as this was one of the things that plagued their G110V2 DA. I do know of a member on Autogeek that had the same issue after using it on 17 cars.

I have emailed Meguiar`s customer care and copied Michael Stoops as this should be covered under their 1 year warranty.

In the meantime I will be using my trusty PC7424XP to finish polishing.

Re: Meguiar`s MT300 Power Cord Issue

Power cord is losing connection inside the housing. Either screws or solder.

Alternatively, short in the power cord near the point where it flexes and goes into the housing.

Easily fixed, but still a quality control issue.

    Interested to know.

Yup. I agree it`s one of those two. I could take it apart and fix it. But it`s still under the warranty period and I`ll let Meguiar`s take care of it. Plus I am only 45 mins from their headquarters.

It`s a shame the power cord issue hasn`t been addressed on the new polishers. It was a problem on the G110v2 as well.

Too bad they don`t try to remedy an ongoing problem.

Re: Meguiar`s MT300 Power Cord Issue

I`m sorry to hear about this. I almost bit for an MT300, but ended up going with a GG6 (after a very hefty coupon discount). I had read that Meguiar`s previous model did have persistent power cord issues, but I would have thought that would have been remedied by now. Unfortunately, I guess not.

Please let us know how you make out with this warranty issue.

Re: Meguiar`s MT300 Power Cord Issue

If one takes the power cord and wraps it tightly around the machine after using it for enough times, this will cause a wire to break at the point where it flexes just outside the housing or even just inside the housing..

This constant wrapping tightly will also cause a wire inside the handle to pull loose from the connection inside the handle, as has already been stated above..

All power cords unless they are soldered inside to the machine wiring and screwed down tightly, and then have a really stiff Strain Relief around the cords where they come out of the machine, will fail at some point if they are pulled on, yanked on, bent a lot with force, or abused...

My little Meguiars G110V2 is still going strong I think now its been 7-8 years...

None of the cords are hard to replace, you just have to take your time and look at how the machine goes together and take it apart carefully..
The trigger assembly may fall out of its place if you are not careful, and you absolutely have to put it all back the way it came out or it will not fit well and may not close up so you can screw it back together...

Good luck, sorry your machine failed so early...

I just got an email back from Mr. Stoops. This is covered under warranty. The customer care center is closed for the holiday so I have to wait until Tuesday to call.

This is true and good advice. Trust me I know as I am an engineer that has worked with designed many cables over my career. This is why I just loop it around the head of the polisher loosely. As a matter of fact this is a good video for that exact purpose.

Re: Meguiar`s MT300 Power Cord Issue

I did get in touch with Meguiar`s customer service and I have to ship it to North Carolina to get it repaired under warranty of course at my expense to cover shipping costs. I was hoping they could fix it at their Irvine site so I can just drive down there and drop it off. We will see how long it lasts once I get it back. I may just sell it after I get it back and go all out for one of the big guns in the Rupes, Griots or Flex.

Wonder what would have happened if you brought it to the one close to you.

I don`t doubt that. It`s too bad I have to pay to get this thing shipped and get it fixed instead of having a shipping label generated and sent to me. I would think that all costs would be covered under warranty including the shipping cost.

Anyway as I was packing this up in the original box I noticed something. The tension on the cord and the box. It`s tight and it pushes the cord in the up position causing strain. Mine only works when the cord is pushed in the upward position and not in the down position. I am starting to think that the way it`s packaged is somewhat part of the cause.
