Can`t go wrong with the Griots--plenty of power (which you`ll appreciate once you get into this) and the lifetime warranty backed up by great customer service. You`ll be much better off dollars wise if you stay away from kits--just buy want you need as you need it. Kits usually contain things you may never use. Get the Griots and equip it with a 5" backing plate and 5 or 5.5" flat pads and a 3.5" backing plate and 4" pads for the tight spots (if money allows). Make sure you buy plenty of pads--the shortest route to failure is to try to polish an entire car with one or two pads. Here`s a post by Mike Phillips re number of pads---How many pads do I need to buff out my car? - Auto Geek Online Auto Detailing Forum Try to keep it simple for your first attempt at machine polishing with perhaps an All In One like HD Speed or a one step polish like HD Adapt--both really easy to work with.
