Great car! I`ve had a few VWs and loved them all. I too like the seats. Nice price too.

Nice. I am sure you`ll love it even more after you drive it awhile.

I have a 1 year old `16 GTI in white with a manual.

The manual was going to be the only way I was gonna go. Definitely a cheaper 40K mile service! Like a dork I can`t stop going out to the garage to look at it.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Re: I Did a Bad Thing...

A guy that used to be two levels up from me at the office just bought a `17 GTI. He says it`s more fun than the BMW M6 he had.

After you get a few miles on the clock, get a Stage 1 ECU tune. That really wakes the engine up and improves fuel economy a bit.

I like the seats haha, sorry 512
Congrats on your new ride! I will be honest, I never liked GTIs very much.. And then I drove one, it blew me away. I will say that in my opinion it`s the most entertaining FWD car on the market (Sorry Focus ST)

Re: I Did a Bad Thing...

Regarding the seats: before I got my MK7 R, I had a MK5 GTI with plaid cloth seats. If I could have ordered my R with cloth seats, I would have. Plaid is a Golf/GTI tradition.

Cloth is much easier to take care of than leather, and much more comfortable in very hot or very cold conditions. The Chevy Tahoe I drove before the GTI was custom-ordered with every option checked except a leather interior.

Love GTI`s. First new car I bought after college was a 99 GTI Vr6. GTI`s are always on the check-out list when I`m shopping for myself.

UNLESS you`re talking dog-hauling Not flaming, I vastly prefer cloth seats but they`re high-maintenance in the Crown Vic dog-hauler.

Re: I Did a Bad Thing...

For me I like Dark leather because i can have random spot of grease or oil on me and its easier to get that off of leather then trying to get it out of cloth after its been ground in by my ample backside. As for these darn Golf GTI`s and Golf R`s, they are killing me I love them I want to drive one for a year. So many cars I wish I could drive for few months or a year just to experience them. Miata, Mustang, Focus ST, Corvette, Challenger, Charger, M2, M3, M4, any Mercedes Coupe AMG or even Sedan AMG, 370Z, GTR, the list goes on and on so many great cars and thats not even the silly exotics or just plain expensive super cars. I lust more over a GTI then a McLaren as I will never have a McLaren but I can have a GTI i just have to pick it over the other 25 cars that I can afford and lust after.

trashmanssd- I hear ya, I sometimes get the hankering for a white GTI/R for a spare car that I simply wouldn`t Autopian-obsess over...if a meteorite lands on the `93 Audi....

Put a clean dog on a leather back seat and a cloth back seat and see which one fares better. The leather will likely have scratches and punctures or localized stretching.

I would argue that if you put a dirty dog (or anything else for that matter) in a car without covering the seats up, you`re doing it wrong, regardless of whether it is a leather or cloth interior.

Luckily I have the beater S10 for dog hauling duty! I loved the leatherette in my Jetta, but cloth feels more comfortable for me. I do like how VW put heat in them standard.
