i recently tried upgrading some old xp type computers i built in the past, to some newer linux distros and it was a no go. these same computers ran linux distros in the past but i believe the hardware just can keep up with the newer requirements anymore. could be time to treat yourself to a new system.

You just have to go with a light version
I ran a few in my uncle`s old XP system..only 512mb of ram/memory works faster then when it had XP
Have to choose the right environment version too

You`ll want to look at these versions
    LXDE or Xfce

Thanks for the offer. JohnZ3MC. It has 4g ram, AMD dual core 6000+, 3.13mhz processor. MSI mb. It should be able to handle most Operating systems. I would like to get a os that would run fairly recent browsers like Firefox.

    Knoppix
run from a DVD and give it a try.
Then install it to a USB stick and it works on any of those PCs you have at home.
