    need help with lawn care

so at my house we used to have very nice full green grass. after we stopped paying for the people to come by and water it its turned brown in spots. i have read that i should put
down some fertilizer then water and mow and a higher height more frequently. is there anything else to it? im sure there is more that can be done i just dont want to take too much time away from detailing cars... lol and the gf and baby, oh and the "job" i hate lol.

interesting change of pace but i do have the answer for you ... it is actually called brown spot disease by lawn people .. my neighbor had this and I asked my cousin who is in the business ... it is a fungus or mold .. cant remember .. and needed to be treated by dry product and kept dry not wet .. until it is gone .. this is bad to have during rainy season and you have to keep sprinklers off too

edit : this is in the soil and even if you dig up the dead grass and put sod down, it will kill that off too and it does spread
life is short ..do it while you can

the red stuff is from either too much water or watering at nite.

make sure to research what type of grass you have. getting the correct weed and feed is important.

not all soil is the same too btw, you may have to water more or less depending on how your soil soaks in. i just kind of watched my lawn and kind of adjusted the timing from how it looked

Re: need help with lawn care

Totally agree you need to first know, what variety/s of grass are you talking about ??

Then tell us how high or low have you been cutting it ?? Needs to be highest in the hottest weather - unless its a Bentgrass which is what they use for golf course greens...

And get your sprinkler timer working correctly, turn it on so you can see if each zones sprinklers are all coming up and are not turned the wrong way, plugged up, broken, etc...

Some varieties get fusarium blight, and other stuff, some get nothing..
Some get attacked by lawn moth grubs, june bug grubs, and stuff like that, leaving brown patches...

Some grass is full of dead grass at the soil level that creates a thatch, making it harder for food, water, and sun to get down there and do their jobs..
All grass will benefit from yearly de-thatching if it has it, and a good aerating which will pull little plugs out of the lawn soil and deposit them on top..

This will now allow air, food and water to get down to the root systems quicker and more efficiently...
Leave the plugs on the top of the lawn so they can break down and help exchange the top of the soil with the soil underneath..

Ever wonder why golf courses fairways and especially the greens look so good ??
Because they dethatch, aerate, feed, water, and cut the greens every morning in 2 directions...
And they test the soil to determine exactly what it needs in terms of PH level and food, and any trace elements it might also need...

Skip the fertilizer on the brown patches, it will just make them browner.

Oh, is Florida grass then a Bentgrass variety ???
That is the same grass on golf course greens and its grown pretty much in a sand mix so it stays compact, flat, and lets the water go through it quickly...
Pretty finicky grass, has to be cut really low to look the best, but if you can get it right, you will have a nice golf course green grass growing..
