Pre Signs of Clear Coat Failure .... POST YOUR PICS

I came across a 2001 a Nissan Altima today that after it was washed and waxed by the owner looked like it was sanded on the roof with heavy sandpaper. I managed to polish it out to a shine but looking close the scratches are still there
I never took photos but PMd another Autopian who showed me exactly what I had. And he confirmed the paint eventually failed a few months later on a similar paint.
    Thanks Marc.
Hoping you chime in on this with your previous findings as well.

I`m not looking for photos with the clear totally peeling off but would love for anyone to share any knowledge of how to better determine if a paint is near failure vs every day swirl or scratch marks.

I actually believe this answers why I`ve never been successful in removing swirls in my Mercury and will now just continue to coat without any compounding. I do lack experience, but this is the only vehicle I`ve never gotten results I wanted.

I hit the hood with my 21 (after the posted photos) and got awesome results but those swirls always remain.

The close up picture you have posted looks like something that can be saved. This is assuming you have enough material to work with if that is a clear coat. My eyes aren`t great but I don`t see clear failure.

I actually hope your right. I`m going to see what`s there in the coming week when I get my paint gauge. And yes it`s clearcoat.

I would love examples photos of what can`t be saved.

Definitely and much easier to see on that dark paint.

I bought the truck used. Whoever repainted it failed. I knew it was failed, but tried to correct it by wet sanding it. No luck. The upside is the rest of the tailgate looks perfect. hehe
