    Cilajet Sealant?

I saw someone ask about this on a BMW site. The dealership is trying to get him to have it applied to the tune of $750

I told the guy to keep is 750 bucks and once or twice a year have a pro detailer detail the car

Anyone use this or know anything about it?

Seems like its an aircraft sealant, not sure what that means when used on a car?

    higher temp? longer lasting durability?

Its not uncommon for dealerships to push this bs on customers. I`ve known of dealerships charging $500 for a cost of Car Brite Paint Sealant. I use this stuff a lot and have for years, and while its the longest lasting sealant ice ever used, its 30 bucks a quart. It makes me sick to think that a scam like this is happening every day.

Yea I knew it was a scam..I hate that dealers prey on customers this way.

So you are getting this for 30 bucks a quart?

Yeah. It used to be a little cheaper but its still a good price. I put 1 coat on an old Ford truck I had just to see how long it would last. 8 months later it was still beading water. I finally got bored with it and stripped it and started over lol.

mahal, Welcome to Detail City, we`re happy to have you here with us. May I suggest you take a moment and stop in to the appropriate forum to introduce yourself and tell us a bit about you? As you are likely aware, often when a new member`s first post includes a URL or product name suspicions my rise. No accusations are being made here. I`m just thinking it would be nice to get to know you. Again, welcome to The City!

    Re: Cilajet Sealant?

Hey guys, just wanted to post a bit about Cilajet and what they are trying to do. Cilajet is a great product and the manufacture of the product is a very close friend of mine. The product from what I know is a "Dealership Only" product and not sold by any retailer at all. Furthermore, the detailer who said it is owned buy whoever is incorrect. Like I said the owner is someone I personally know very well. She is an amazing woman who has a great product out on the market being sold through the auto dealership channels.

Auto dealerships have for years now been selling insurance backed products to the consumer in a big way. Right or wrong, the Dealership Paint Sealant program is extremely successful for dealership throughout the country. Most new car auto dealerships offer a new car paint and interior protection package ranging in price from as low as $400.00 and up to $800. In some cases I have experienced new car dealerships offering vehicle protection packages well over $1,000.00

You can look at this as a negative or you can look at it as a positive! Just think for a minute on the business side of things! Dealerships have actually done us a great deal of helping educate the market about the added benefits of paint sealants. Therefore, making it and marketing it a lot easier for all of us to "UPSELL" our paint sealant programs. In fact, in my shop `Paint Sealant" is my number one up sell and I get very good money for each one I sell. And it`s 100% pure profit for us because we were going to wax the car anyway as part of our standard detail.... I`ve used Cilajet for years along with many other paint sealants and I can say that it is one great product that the owner can be very proud of. And if you ever get a chance to meet her you would know she is an amazing person to do business with.

What`s the difference between Cilajet and CG JetSeal 109 other than the fact Cilajet can only be purchased through the dealership "program"?

    Re: Cilajet Sealant?

The body shop owner where I had my car repaired uses it on his Lear and all of the family cars. Hard to argue with someone who is in the business. He doesn`t offer it to the body shop customers and only does on special requests from friends.

Two very different companies and two very different products. And your right... the Cilajet is not available through the retail market place. CG has there Jet Seal 109 available a lot of places. Both are paint sealants...

Good luck to you my friend...

Let me apologize in advance, I thought you were affiliated with CG and could offer a technical explanation. Does Cilajet offer cleaning abilities or is it a pure sealant? Is it best applied by machine or can it be applied by hand or machine? What about long term durability?

    Re: Cilajet Sealant?

Noting this is a nearly year old thread, I must say that one needs to take a dispassionate view of this product and practice. From the dealership standpoint they (paint/textile protection plans) are an obvious (to some) revenue source to be tapped when the profit margins on new car sales dwindle. Dealerships are expensive to operate and income must be generated somewhere. If someone is willing to pay for these services then the dealerships will gladly take their money. Most members of this fourm and others like it don`t see a value as we are willing to maintain our vehilces` exteriors and interiors on our own for far less cash outlay.

From the product standpoint, how "wonderful" the owner/manufacturer is (or isn`t) can only marginally add (or detract) from the value of their product (or service).

That said, since we can`t really discuss its merits or short comings, I`m wondering if it isn`t best to let a sleeping dog lie?

    Re: Cilajet Sealant?

I have a customer with this who paid 1,000 dollars for it and it really unhappy with it. So am I ,because now he doesnt want me to do anything to his paint for fear of voiding the warranty .No Claybar , no polishing , no wax. He used to be a very good customer of mine and now he only wants a semi detail ,wash every few months instead of a full detail.

After only a couple months the car is completely swirled up and bird droppings have etched his paint .

Any kind of solvent wax is not recommended for top coat because it can destroy the cilajet, also including any spray wax.( according to the website)

It also needs re applying after 5 years FYI so its really not lifetime.

Sorry I had to give my opinion before you let the sleeping dogs lay!

On a positive note it really sheets water well!
