Re: Review, Comparison And Testing: Carpro PERL and Ultima Tire And Trim Guard Plus

    1 Month Update:

    UTTG Cowl:

    Perl Cowl:

    Dust accumulation for both UTTG/Perl:

    UTTG Side Skirt:

    Perl Side Skirt:

I didn`t even bother taking pictures of the UTTG on the tires because there wasn`t really much difference.

Perl Front Tires (produces brake dust):

Perl Rear Tires (no brake dust):

As you can see in the pictures, both UTTG and Perl held up after a month under the hot Arizona sun. I`m guessing that these trim products will hold up for a long time so long as it doesn`t make any contact with water. You can also see how the Perl looks amazing on tires especially on the one that doesn`t get any brake dust. Both products attract dust but UTTG attracts a lot more.

    After Washing:

When I was washing the UTTG sections, my wash mitt was turning black. The dirt felt very sticky and it was very hard to remove from the mitt. The Perl section turned grey but it wasn`t bad. But more importantly, it washed off easily from the wash mitt.

The only good thing about UTTG was that it held up very well from washing. It looked like it was never degraded at all. Perl degraded quite a bit from the wash.

    Conclusion:

Overall, I`ll pick Perl over UTTG. Even though it gets washed off, I`d rather re-apply Perl after every wash as opposed to getting my wash mitt stained with the sticky goo UTTG attracts. And so long as you don`t make contact with water, they will hold up pretty long. Perl also attracts less dust.

I agree with your conclusion as well Marc. Good review.
Perl lasts a few weeks on my old Ford plastic trim.

I`ve never experienced the dust-attraction thing with UTTG+ but that was with the original formula. I just did a *LOT* of stuff on the `93 Audi with the newer version and it`ll be interesting (to put it nicely) to see if it becomes an issue.

Shawn, do you consider this to be good or bad? I`m curious. I guess I don`t really have plastic trim to coat on our cars apart from the grilles and I use dlux on those areas. I suspect finding something that can withstand rain, etc. is probably a challenge.

I own PERL. I`ve used it on tires, which is why I purchased it, and on the plastic engine covers.

You`re very welcome. If you ever decide to compare it against WG trim sealant, I`d love to hear the results!

I did my dads equinox with it as a protective step. I definitely noticed the dust sticking to it more and even the upgp as well. Compared to different polish and nothing on the trim it seemed grabby to dust. It wouldnt blow off when driven either. We`ll see how it does after this first wash thursday. But if it continues to be a lint trap i dont think he will be very happy. It did do a good job of hiding the old white wax oops`s in the trim and license plate holders though. I dont think he wants to reapply after every rain though so perl doesnt really seem like a winner either. Any other ideas for grey trim that just needs protection?

edb- Thanks for the info on how the UTTG+/dust is going on your dad`s car.

I`m wondering if my usual wipedown of the trim with ValuGard`s Fast Finish will mitigate the dust issue. Would`ve been nice if the UTTG+ had made that unnecessary, but then it`s not much worse than wiping stuff dry (which *is* a bit worse than merely blowing it dry, but OK..).
