    Review - DP Tire Coating

Well I took advantage of the Autogeek free shipping sale and purchased the VIP special. The VIP special was the DP Tire Coating. I had the day off from work so I needed something to do.

    The kit included:

    8 oz Tire Coating
32 oz Tire & Cleaner Restorer
    3 Microfibers

What I should have done was pick up another Carrand tire brush. I have one but it`s my tire dressing applicator and I did not want to cross contaminate any remaining product even though I cleaned the brush really well. I used a flex foam applicator. These applicators are great as they don`t load up with product.

    Flex Foam Tire Dressing Applicators

I labeled this one so it will be used only for the tire coating.

The product is white and it`s a very thin watery liquid. I used a little extra just to prime it. I massaged it in a bit with my finger and spread around onto the face of the applicator. I probably used more than I had to but I got the hang of it as I went around to the other tires.

I have a Tuff Shine tire brush. This is the best brush I have used. Works really well.

    TUF SHINE Tire Brush

My cleaning of the tires varied a little. I started off by using Meguiar`s D143 to remove the initial dirt, grime, old Blackfire tire gel off the tires. I did 2-3 passes until I saw white suds using a 2:1 dilution of it. I followed up with 2 passes of the DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer. It still removed a little extra gunk of the tires. The reason I used Meguiar`s first is because I have a lot more of that versus only having 32 oz`s of DP tire cleaner. I didn`t want to run out. In the end I have about a little more than half the bottle of DP tire cleaner as Nick from Autogeek recommended to use it liberally. I also had my Metro Blaster Sidekick to dry the tires prior to each cleaning as DP states to use on dry tires.

I cleaned my wheels while I was there with some Zymol car wash and various tire brushes. PBL wheel coating sure makes it easy cleaning the wheels.

    Tire completely stripped

Tire dressed with 1 coat of DP tire coating

I ended up putting 2 coats just to be sure I had even coverage with the foam applicator. In full sun this is what the tire looks like

In the shade the tire appears dark

My cheap product pop for those instagram users

I will post up updates on how this holds up for me. I have been using tire gels with these tires as they were finicky with a tire coating and it didn`t hold/stick when I first got them. Hopefully they broke in and the tire coating sticks. I have used Turtle Wax Jet Black Endura Shine Tire Coating in the past on my previous tires and with that I have consistently seen 2-3months before it needs a re-coat.

The difference between both products is that DP is white and has a bluish tint when applied to the tire. The bluish color goes away as it dries clear on the tire. The TW coating is black in color and has a purplish color when applied onto the tire. The color goes away as it dries on the tire and retains that black color. The DP tire coating has a longer working time. It also streaks less.

Overall it looks good and I am satisfied with the look. It took me one tire to figure out how much product to actually use, so the learning curve is low. I do plan to purchase another carrand tire brush and use that next time when I apply it so that I can compare which applicator works best.

Not the kit I purchased but it comes with everything needed.

Awesome review Guz. The one pic looks like it could be used as an ad for a tire manufacturer.

Re: Review - DP Tire Coating

Looking forward to updates. Right now I`m using gyeon tire. I like it as much as the T1 tire. It last a week or 2 which is good for me and how I use the car. Both are expensive per use. I`d like a perm product like this as long as it was not mucking up my wash kits during interim washing and as long as I. Could scrub it off when it starts to fail so I don`t have that it`s dying look going on m

It is. After you use up that blackfire AIO you can venture onto a tire coating. It really is the way to go on a daily driver.

Seeing as how Angus did a 3 month update and it was still looking good, I think you will like this. I will provide an update along the way.

Re: Review - DP Tire Coating

Took a 70 mile drive today and this is why I don`t like these tires. This is the second coating that will not bond to them. Just when I think they are clean they start browning.

Going to try this again but it`s just to hot this weekend.

Re: Review - DP Tire Coating

    It`s a bummer that it isn`t holding.

I wonder what exactly in the rubber compound interferes with coatings/dressings.

Re: Review - DP Tire Coating

I have no idea. This is not the first coating that has done this. With tire gels it`s ok. There is definitely something in the rubber composition with these tires.

I may have to look into it, doubt I`ll find much but you never know.

BTW, great review. Looked amazing. Probably still looks better than most tires on the road.

Oh man. That stinks. Sorry, Guz.

And your sure it`s not the 2nd layer polling off the 1st layer? I`ve read about that happening to some.

This is exactly the same thing that happened to me and the DP coating. Looked great in the garage and then went for a drive and as soon as I pulled into the garage the coating looked like it was failing.
