I am new to detailing using the Porter Cable 7336SP. I ordered a bunch of stuff from CMA and have been reading a lot of posts here.

I noticed that CMA says to use a 50/50 mix of Isopropyl Alcohol and water after the compounding step. Where can I find this type of alcohol? I have some rubbing alcohol. Will this work or must I use Isopropyl Alcohol?

    thanks in advance!

Check your bottle. Usually a rubbing alcohol is isopropyl. If not, go to your local Rite-Aid, Target, supermarket, etc. and buy a bottle or two. They should be about 2 for a buck. Pretty cheap.

I checked the bottle last night and it did not say anything about Isopropyl.

    thanks!

    ~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Mixing 50/50 with distilled water it should not make a difference what type of alcohol Iso or rubbing you use.

Isopropyl alcohol, also known as Isopropanol, is a colourless liquid with a pleasant odour. It is highly flammable. Isopropyl alcohol is found in alcohol sponges, cleaning agents, and rubbing alcohol (though some rubbing alcohols contain ethanol), and is a good disinfectant. Most rubbing alcohol contains 70% isopropyl alcohol.

    ~Hope this helps~

No problem using the ethanol; that`s what you buy at the liquor store. But don`t drink yours because it is probably denatured and will make you sick!!
