What ever happened to Liquid Glass...?

With all of these new "glass", ceramic, polymer coatings coming out every year now it seems - what ever happened to Liquid Glass and its popularity?

Apparently live and well. They now have CARBON PTFE kits out. I did not know this....

Well yeah, they are still in business - but you don`t hear of anyone using them anymore (along with Collinite, etc.) - at least not on here.

Are the newer coatings really that much "better"?

Collinite is all over the forums ???

Again depends on you definition of "better".

Both have positives and negatives, both have limitations.

Re: What ever happened to Liquid Glass...?

Maybe people figuired out that the Liquid Glass isn`t all that great and moved on to one of the many products that *is*.

OK, in all fairness I only used it once (just to satisfy somebody who insisted it was great), but that single experience didn`t impress me in the least despite being back before "modern products" were commonly available.

And yeah, Collinite continues to get used/mentioned/etc., at least here at Autopia. Outlasts and protects better than some sealants, not bad for an "old wax".

I had an 1988 Alpine white M3. I have always been a car guy, but back then I was a one bucket, though I knew how to clean a car, dish soap and sponge guy.

Loved the liquid glass it was a step up from the Turtle wax I wsas using. and When I detailed for money it was my upsell.

I would guess it was one of the first sealants, nothing more. Great marketing and great packaging, with the candy apple vette on the can. Had a pre cleaner so it was really ahead of its time.

It would pale in protective qualities compared to todays coatings.

Re: What ever happened to Liquid Glass...?

I used Liquid Glass back in the late 80`s, early 90`s on my red Toyota MR2. Was a really nice reflective shine on a single-stage paint, relatively easy to use, and cleaned pretty well, like a one-step product. it was an expensive (at about $12.00 per a 16oz can in 1988) for an over-the-counter state-of-the-art "paint protectant" for its day. However, when I found a can of Classic Carnauba Wax at K-Mart for about $4.00 on a close-out, I moved on. Still, my favorite products from that era were Blue Coral and DuPont Rain Dance and Meg`s No.6 Cleaner Wax (which they STILL make.)
You can still get Liquid Glass with the red 67? Corvette on it at AutoZone for about $25.00 for a 16 oz. can. From what I recall from posts about this product it requires a "perfect" paint finish (IE, NO swirls or defects) or it will magnify them rather than fill or hide them. That and the fact it does not seem to provide much "protection" from bug splats and bird bomb etching, at least in someone else`s experience. For that price, I will use Collinite 476S, which I feel is a superior looking and protecting LSP.

Re: What ever happened to Liquid Glass...?

I never tried Liquid Glass, but I had both Blue Coral and Rain Dance. I was reading that the Carbon Liquid Glass is good for 7-10 years with 5 coats. That`s quite a statement. I wonder why coating manufacturers today like to say "1 year" or "3 years" when they could say "1 to 3 years depending on conditions"?

Heh heh...yeah...for somebody who doesn`t want to use a coating, or mess with extensive layering, AND likes how it looks on their paint, I *still* can`t get over how great that stuff is. At some point I bet all my vehicles will wear FK1000P...well, OK..not the Jag
