Adhesive Removal On Plastic Mirror

Ok I have a 05 harley f250 with chrome caps over the mirrors. I want to pull the caps off but don`t know how to remove the adhesive from the textured plastic. I tried some goo gone citrus gell and it didn`t really seem to budge. Is there anything i could use? Is 3m adhesive remover safe on plastic?
