Re: Calling all members who recently bought scangrip lights...

Don`t know how these pics will come out so here goes
    Scangrip rechargeable & Penlight
    Flex light
    Small Adams light ?

    Scangrip has a power magnet,
Adams light has a lesser magnet

    They all do their thing.
The Scanlight rechargeable has a Hi/lo setting, and is a solidly well built high quality Tool. Not just any swirl light.
Soft white light. Med. viewing area.
The ScanPenlight nother story, the button can be pushed &
held or clicked in to stay. Use rechargeable batts. it eats them. To me the Scanpen is overrated. A flashlight. Sm. viewing area.
Flex light, just could not find swirls, flashlight. Not a crisp light. Med. viewing area
Adams Small light.. blew me away ! . Brighter then all,
the closer I got the more swirls appeared, crisp white light.
Found myself reaching for this before the Scanpen, and to double check the Scangrip.
    Super lightweight, Largest viewing area
( now `scuse me while I clean my toolbox )

Re: Calling all members who recently bought scangrip lights...

I got the match pen, it`s actually better than my 93+ cri Nichia 219b pen light that I love and adore. it can reproduce orange and yellow tones in a superior fashion relative to the Nichia. This leads me to believe that the LED they are using in this pen light is above 93+ CRI. I don`t have a spectro meter, I have a color table chart, and a camera, and my results are consistent with multiple test, the scangrip distinguishes all the colors clearly.

Are they on the pricey side? Yeah. probably.

Build quality... 6/10, for the price i expected better, edges are rough, click button is mushy... and just doesnt feel like a premium product.
Color Matchability.... 9/10, because nothing beats the sun, and this comes that close.
Functionality... 8/10, the zoom is sweet, very useful to spot different defects... but the way the light is projected is a bit odd/not smooth... probably nature of the beast issue.
Recommendation: probably the best pen light for this purpose. Its quick, accurate, and best of all reproduces colors real well. buy if you can afford.

I expect similar results for the rest of their lineup, I`d wait for the 2nd gen lights (dual tone function) because right now apparently the astro ones are similar for cheap.

I will give another vote for the Astra 50SL - I`m not sure how I detailed prior to using it!

I use a Astro 50SL, but I also have a Scangrip pen light on the way. I`ve used Astro products in the past in regards to hand tools so I didn`t really second guess the 50SL. It works great for what I need.

Re: Calling all members who recently bought scangrip lights...

I`ve had the Multimatch Light for about 18 months now. Overall it`s a very nice work light that produces a more accurate color in my pics than my cheap LED work light does. It shows defects pretty well and I love having the ability to run it off the battery when needed...actually this is probably the best feature of the light IMO. It`s also very solid and well constructed. That being said, I feel they are over priced for what they do and the overall light it puts out isn`t much different then my Husky LED stand.

The Sunmatch looks pretty nice with some cool features other hand held lights don`t have, but when it comes to showing defects like faint DA haze or micro marring, I have yet to use something that shows as much as the Fenix PD35...aka "Dream Crusher".

It was actually better for finding swirls in my Blazing Blue (metallic blue) color on the Yaris, than other lights I had tried up to that point.

Just in case you haven`t tried.... I found you need to find it`s sweet spot, with variables that include: the slide in/out part of it, the viewing angle, the distance from light to the panel. It took some time to figure this out, and it worked. But, it`s not like a find-the-setting-and-leave-it type deal, since other factors come into play. It`s why I don`t care too much for the Flex light. Don`t get me wrong, it`s neat, it`s been working, but it`s too much work and I lose patience.

I think I may pick up some matte coating instead... but knowing myself I might buy both, lol

this is definitely my next swirl light or that astro one looks promising as well - one of the two, probably an easier choice since they only sell one of them here
