    Long Term Wax Test. Collinite, Lusso, Griots, DoDo

    The good people here on Autopia helped me choose some waxes for a test. My beater car was in bad need of a polish, so I did, and thus had a nice slab to run some tests. HERE`s THE WAXES WE CHOSE:

    OK, to be fair, the forum members picked three waxes, and I added the forth - the Pro DoDo.

    This assortment is a good representation of prices, with 10x spread from most expensive to least.

    Prices:
    DoDo Juice Blue Velvet Pro (6.76 oz)
    $79.99
    {{ $11.83 per ounce }}

    Lusso Oro Premium Carnauba Wax (8 oz)
    $ 39.95
    {{ $5 per ounce }}

    Collinite Marque D’Elegance Carnauba Paste Wax #915 (12 oz)
    $ 36.99
    {{ $3.08 per ounce }}

    Griots Garage Best of Show Wax, New Formula (16 oz)
    $20.99
    {{ $1.31 per ounce }}

    All of the above waxes can be had for cheaper by waiting for a sale.

    Prep:
    Groits Clay, IronX, Menzerna FG400 with a Yellow LC CCS pad and GG6.
    The compounding resulted in much needed gloss, decent correction, but left holograms. I decided to leave the holograms to judge filling of the waxes (a test spot with Black Hole revealed that the holograms can be hidden).

    Wax Application:
    Per directions. By hand. Two layers, 2 hours apart.

    Here`s the test area. Forum-picked waxes have their own dedicated rectangle, and the DoDo will take up the remainder of the roof.

    For the most part, this is a longevity test, and only time will tell, but here`s some initial rankings:

    Ease of use (smell, application, removal).
    1) Blue Velvet Pro, because it spreads easily, is easy to SEE, and is an aromatic treat.

    2) 915. The way it melts onto the applicator and into the paint.. it just doesn`t get the attention it deserves for ease of use.

    3) Lusso Oro - smells like a tropical paradise, and glides on easily, but is very hard to see. I have to look at it from an
    angle to be sure I have full coverage. Lusso is adamant about thin coats, which takes practice.

    4) Best of Show - a very thick liquid that can be frustrating to meter out of the OEM bottle. Aside from that, it spreads
    well enough, but I`d much rather use a DA and a black pad with BOS. It has a light, very pleasant salon-like fragrance. By the way,
    the new version is a huge success addressing the removal issues of the past. Zero issues after a 30 minute wait.

    Regardless of rank, these were all very easy and pleasurable to use.

    Filling ability
    1) Blue Velvet Pro. It completely hid the holograms left from the aggressive pad, and even toned down some clear coat spotting.

    2) Best of Show. This surprised me. Very decent filling ability. My garaged car doesn`t need any filling so I`ve never noticed that BOS filled.

    3) Lusso Oro. Meh. It made things look better, but not "gone".

    4) 915. No filling that I could detect. It`s made that way.

    Beading & Sheeting is coming soon, with pics, but rain today revealed 915 out in front with the smallest, tightest beads.

    Just for fun, some reflections. Remember, this paint is in bad shape.

    More to come, thanks for looking!

    I told myself I wouldn`t buy anymore waxes or sealant until I have finished what I have in stock. These threads are not helping

    Collinite has an unfair advantage in the reflection shot with its metallic container

    Thanks for the test. I love these threads. Will be checking back.

    After this test if finished, will you be doing a polish test, from where the bottles were placed with no micro under em ??

    (sorry, had to say it before someone else did)

    Watched a woman slide a suitcase onto her roof a few days ago. That was cringeworthy.

    I`d probably still be setting stuff on my cars if I hadn`t started polishing cars when I was younger.

    I`d be the guy wiping off the bottom of the wax containers prior to putting them on the paint.

    It`s my beater! 24-7 outside, I rarely wash it, it has clearcoat failure all over the place. That`s what made this fun.. I didn`t have to pamper it.

    Re: Long Term Wax Test. Collinite, Lusso, Griots, DoDo

    Thar be BEADS!

    One day, one rainstorm, and one commute later, here are the baseline beads:

    After playing with the hose a bit, here`s 4 separate pics..

    915

    Lusso

    Griot`s BoS

    Blue Velvet Pro

    So, beading is typical for these waxes. Lusso Oro is not a strong beader, as you can tell. Here`s how I rank them.

    BEADING
    1) Collinite 915
    2) DoDo Blue Velvet Pro
    3) Griot`s Best Of Show
    4) Lusso Oro

    Sheeting was done by smoothly pouring a 2 gallon bucket of water over the roof, a few times. I watched the water shrink up and dissipate. 915 doesn`t want to give up it`s beads, to the point where sheeting is minimized somewhat. For now, I have to call it a tie. However, Lusso exhibited a strange behavior, see below:

    Here`s pretty much what the three waxes other than Lusso looked like after the flooding:

    However, look how Lusso held on to these little shapes of water...

    The "puddles" are not deep, so this is actually very easy to wipe up - perhaps more so that the big puddles left by the other brands. I`m not sure what to think of it, but Lusso DID sheet the water quickly, it just left it`s remainder behind in a different way.

    That`s all for now!

    Must say I`m a little jealous. I had to sale my 67 fair lady aka Datsun 1600 a few years ago when my son was born.

    Thanks for the side by side. I really enjoy using Dodo juice Blue Velvet.
