    Headlamp compund

    Hi there,

I noticed one of our vehicles (2012 model) has some light oxidation on the top of each headlight lens. Thanks South Florida! Nothing too bad, but something I want to take care of.

Plan is to hit it with a G110 w/3" MF pad and some compound. My guess is sanding is not required.
Question is - will FG400 and my tools do the trick, or something more dedicated such as McKee`s headlight restoration kit? I don`t mind getting the right tools for the job, but investing in the McKee`s kit, has redundant or unnecessary components (towels, not sure I really need a foamed wool pad, etc.)
Wondering if I can likely knock it out with regular old compound and a MF pad. Has anyone had success either way? Again, oxidation is not bad at all...

Afterwards, plan is to spray opti seal on it every week, or maybe just go straight to some opti lens and be done with it.

    Thx in advance for feedback.

I had the same problem a few months ago - light cloudiness. I used Megs Ultimate Compound by hand (mf cloth) and that worked well. I put 845 on them every couple of weeks. So far so good.

FG400 should be plenty if you don`t need to sand

Agree 100 percent with jrock645. I`ve done exactly that on headlights and tail lights with great success. Follow up with a sealant or coating to slowdown the aging process.

    Re: Headlamp compund

I know this is old. But my best luck with clearing headlights has come with using my GG 6" with 3000 grit wetsand pad, followed by HD cut with an uber pad, followed by Speed or HD Polish. I finish up with a coat of UV protectant from some headlight lens kits I bought from WalMart on sale for $2.50.

Hope this helps. I used kits and polished for a long time. Once I discovered how quickly 3000 wetsand paper on a polisher followed by buffing worked I`ll never go back.
