IPA or Eraser

I am getting ready to do a application of Polish Angels Viking Coat and according to Travis Kent I should do a light polish and a wipe down before applying coating. That`s why I am asking which to use before coating.

If you don`t have eraser, use the IPA. Both of your cars have hard clear (Vette and MB correct). I have mixed the IPA 50/50 with Distilled water and also used it at 15% IPA to distilled water. You want to be sure you get all the polishing oils off the surface.

I have used both and when I am done with the eraser I have, I will not re buy it. I see no difference other than smell.

Most important thing is let is all flash off before you apply the coating. Pay attention to the cure times and dwell time on the PA Viking coat application. I did 2 Layers.

I`d go with IPA. Eraser doesn`t play well with some non-CarPro coatings - Pinnacle Black Label doesn`t like it for one. Not knowing more about Polish Angel, you`re just safer with an IPA wipe down.

PA invincible primer, I fiquried I would stay with same product line . Corvette will be getting the coating

I`d consult with the coating manufacturer. Some manufacturers explicitly state not to use products like Eraser as it contains surfactants which could effect some coatings, and instead use pure IPA/water mixture to prep the surface after polishing.

Did u tell travis you were using their inv primer as the polish? Inv primer and cosmic from pa didnt require ipa wipe down according to travis

No. I sent email to travis this morning clarifying this question. DocPeanut said no on wiping down with invincible primer. This is my 1st time doing a coating and I would like to do it right especially on my toy............

I`m always surprised when people find IPA effective for removing polishing oils, it just never worked all that great for me, at least not with products that have tenacious oils (e.g., M205). I do much better with TOL`s PrepWash/AkyraClean (or however they spell it these days).

The fact is that manufacturers specifically call out IPA before most coatings, therefore as a consumer, we should be able to assume that this is a required step that developed as a result of testing and analysis. If this is not the correct product to use, surely coating manufacturers would be recommending other sorts of solutions and/or manufacturing these other solutions themselves.

I`m not hating on IPA, I keep a spray bottle of it on the shelf, works fine when I use my non-M205 polishes- E.g., HD Polish and polishes from Optimum strip away just fine with it prior to coating.

I guess more of what I was eluding to was that if it was an issue, you would expect to hear more about it. Given that it is not a voiced concern by either manufacturers or consumers, it is likely a non-issue.

For instance, M205 is our most commonly used polish throughout the years, and we have never had a customer complain about coating life/durability, nor have I noticed any poor performance in my own long-term testing. Therefore I would imagine the surface is as clean as it needs to be for good performance after 1:1 IPA wipe down or Eraser wipe down. Sure there are stronger solvents out there, but it seems they simply aren`t needed?

Is it also possible that the solvents in the coating may help to further clean the surface during application? Just thinking out loud.

I`d Stay away from eraser for non carpro preps. Best I`ve found...megs D114 @1:15. Or IPA as option.

If you use Primer, then you don’t need IPA. IPA would only be for using any other polish. I use Primer before Viking Coat simply because I like the results I get with it and not needing IPA.
