Like Meguiar`s M105 but with a longer work time?

Got my first DA - I bought the Griot`s kit from Autopia that comes with Meguiar`s 105 and 205. The 205 I liked, but the 105 had such a short working time, I basically had to limit myself to 12" x 12" even though the paint was cool and in the shade on a cool day. I like that as a SMAT I didn`t have to worry about making sure I work it long enough (well, I like the premise, I`ve never used anything else...), but that short work time was a real pain.

I`m willing to move away from SMAT if it means I go through less product, so I`m open to suggestions.

I never bought M105. I believe M101 might be a better Meguiars choice from what I read.
I bought Poorboys Master Cut. Never used 105 since I heard it`s got a bit of a learning curve and the short work time.

You could try HD cut. It`s smat as well I believe and the couple times I used it, it hasn`t dried up on me

I highly recommend Menzerna FG-400. It`s MUCH more user friendly than M105, great cut, longer work time, very little dusting.

If you want to stay with Meguiar`s try ultimate compound. It`s derived from M105. You can also go with D300 from the microfiber system. It works with foam pads. Both have longer working times than M105. M101 is good but it may be to aggressive.

If you like 105 but want a better work time either use Ultimate Compound or 101. Personally I prefer Ultimate Compound in the Meguiars line. I`ll second the Menzerna FG-400 though as that and the 2500/4500 combo is pretty much my go-to..

I`ll give the Menzerna a go next time. I need to expand out of my brand comfort zone I think. I`ve been using P21S wheel cleaner, car shampoo, and wax for about 15 years now.

Megs Ultimate Compound may be a good choice. Megs UC plays well.
Meguiars Ultimate Compound is less aggressive than M105 and M101.
As a consumer product UC is easy to work with and it`s available locally.
As stated above Megs UC is derived from the M105 S.M.A.T. technology.
Megs Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish are both excellent products.

If going with Menzerna, should I also switch out the 205 for something from their line, or if I`m happy with 205 just stick with 205 as a finishing product? From the Menzerna line, is SF4000 fine enough for a final finish, or is SF4500 a must?

Megs 205 is a very good finishing polish.
Yes, you can mix and match different polishing products from different brands.
If you`re happy with M205 use it! I like Meguiars M101 and Carpro Reflect.

The only way to get Meguiars 105 to work longer is to, as has already been said, give it a little water and it will come back and as long as you watch what you are doing, it will really finish down nicely and leave you great gloss and clarity..

This has been going on since its inception - what - about 10+ years ago...

M105 is a great product and can pretty much do anything, if one will take the time to - and I know I say this all the time - be innovative - and figure out what it would need to work for you..

In your scenario, it doesnt last long, wet it a little, experiment, it will last longer and finish really great..
    Good luck,

Completely missed the water suggestion. Neat!
