Blackfire Total Trim and Tire Sealant on headlights?

Anyone used this on headlight plastics? I did the other day on my Sorento and it seemed to go on and off ok. Was wondering if anyone else had done that.

Just curious why`d you want to seal your headlights on a 2yr old car?

That`s kind of like asking why you`d seal the paint on a 2-yr old car...to protect it, of course. Not sure if BFTTTS is going to do that or not.

I for one would rather protect my OEM headlight coating and preserve it for as long as possible before having to sand it off and recoat when it fails.

Paint yes, I agree with you. But polycarbonate headlights w/ an existing UV coating? I`m not so sure about. If i was going to add anything on top of my headlights it would be a product designed for that purpose.

Yeah, but you didn`t ask why he used BTTTS, you asked why he`d seal the headlights on a 2-yo car. If it was me I`d use Opti-Lens, but I can sort of see the logic of using a trim protector which theoretically has high-UV protection if you didn`t want to buy a lens-specific product. And back in the day (before there were these headlight-specific products and trim restorers) I always put whatever LSP I was putting on the paint on the headlights and taillights--didn`t you?

Re: Blackfire Total Trim and Tire Sealant on headlights?

Honestly, i don`t bother doing anything to factory headlights that still have their UV coating. Once it breaks down, the headlights start to haze, then yes then I do seal and protect them. But until that happens, I see it as a waste of time since (IMHO) there seems to be a wide variation on how quickly OEM headlight UV coating seem to wear off. For example, by parents and brother both own identical 1998 Subaru Outback`s - however the headlights on my folk`s Outback hazed over/ had to be corrected (my review posted here) but my brothers headlights still look factory fresh. Why? I have no idea. Both are original owners, live in the same general area, cars are DD, sit outside 24/7, and are exactly the same age w/ original headlights. Next chance I get, I`ll take a photo of both cars together to further illustrate my point.

Maybe this should be the next poll:

Do you add an additional layer of UV protectant to your non-hazed OEM headlights? Yes/ No

I gotta say, you`ve peaked my interest on this one.

Isn`t everything we do here to a vehicle an attempt to preserve the "newness" of it? Why would we exclude the headlights from that?
