so questions about waxing...

ive read all the intructions on waxing from lots of diffrent places, but im still a little uncertin about some stuff.

YOU DONT HAVE TO ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS! do however many you feel like, as it will be greatly apreciated!

do cars come from the dealer with any wax/protectant on them (other than CC)

everyone says not to wash you car with dish soap because it strips your wax off, if you were going to wax right after washing your car, wouldent this be a good thing?

what is the purpose of "polisher", is it used before or after waxing? right after washing? does it fill holes in the CC?

how does a clay bar work? ive heard that it only glides over the surface and removes dirt and stuff bueried into the CC, BUT, ive also heard it will stirp off all your old wax, how is this posible?

it seems like theres about 1000 tottaly diffrent ways to wax your car and theres no "set guidelines". i know that all products are diffrent and ill take the instructions into consideration, but ive never done this before and dont want to be left with my roof scratched up and covered in crusty white stuff just because i did this wrong.




oh... and what do you guys recomend for getting those windshild lines off my windshild? something i can get a local store pls...

- Not typically

- repeated washings with dish soap can dry out rubber seals, plastics, etc.

- Polishing lessens or removes swirls and other surface defects and brings out the full gloss of the paint. It should be done before waxing.

- Clay has very light abrasives that pull away contaminants and also some/all of the wax.

- Clay lube is essentailly detail spray (or quick detailer).

- Liquid wax is liquid (ie. pours out of a bottle) and paste wax is a soft solid in a jar. Spray waxes can be used as you wish, but they usually have limited durability.

- I prefer to apply waxes using a foam applicator in straight motions.

Edit: thank you ZaneO youve been a big help, the lines on the outside of the wiper, where all the water is pushed out of the way (not scratches from wiper). kinda looks like a water stain

Glad to help. You might try a glass polish on those areas (or even a little bar keeper`s friend).

There are some that feel using a dish liquid is to strong for the finish of an automobile, I have used it in the past with no side effects as long as I know I was going to do a complete 5 step process.
wash, clay, wash, polish, protect.

A polisher is a tool to aid in enhancing the finish of your Veh. and applying polishes, waxes or polymers.

At a molecular level......yes... but this could start a whole new argument.

There are many environmental contaminants that adhere to your paint so stubbornly that even a high-quality car wash can`t remove them. Some may be visible to your eye. Others you`ll detect when you pass your hand across the finish and notice it doesn`t feel as smooth as glass. All of these contaminants can reduce your shine and ultimately do permanent damage to your paint. A safe, non-abrasive surface prep (never a harsh rubbing compound that can scratch your finish) is the answer.

YES but not on a weekly basis, depending on your driving habits it would be a good idea to at least clay 3-4 times a year.

if memory serves me correctly there are 2 types, for the life of me I`m drawing a blank on the types.
I do know that 1 of them breaks down using a car wash as a lubricant and the other don`t...I`ll think of it in the middle of the night.

follow the manufactures direction.
there have been many write-up on how to apply way, most us a horizontal swipe on the sides of Veh. and a circular motion on hoods, roofs and trunks. but this comes down to user preference.

?. we need this one done again. i think you might be asking how to remove scratches from a windshield....but I`d be guessing... we have no idea where your from.

Glass is significantly harder than your paint. If you have scratches in your glass from whatever cause, it is likely that you will be better off just getting a new windshield if they are that much of an issue. Polishing glass is a tricky task if the scratches are very deep.

Give up now if you are looking for the difinitive answer on how to do this. Detailing is an art just as much as it is a science. You will get as many different ideas and suggestions as there are members of this community. Don`t look for one thread that gives you all the answers. All you are going to find are threads that give suggestions on one of the many ways to skin a cat.
