My daughter`s car will need some repair after an accident. How long should I wait until I use Cquartz UK? 6 months? Is that still the general guideline?

The best thing to do is ask the shop doing the repairs how long the cure time is for the finish.

I`ve never heard 6 months, but 60 days (or so) is an OLD SCHOOL rule of thumb. Modern paints are air-cured (which is sometimes sped up with heat/UV lamps). The body shop that I had kept on retainer always told me I could wax as soon as I got it home. Other shops may have different opinions of course.

When I had my Dakota repainted in 2007, they said 3 months but the paint seemed soft for at least 6 months - easy to mar.

If you can smell paint or solvents when you get close to it, it is still drying.
Paintwork dries from the bottom up and out..
You have a few coats of primer drying, then in some cases a sealer drying, then perhaps a few coats of a basecoat drying, and then perhaps a few coats of clear, etc., on top drying..
Very few shops will dry it completely before it goes out the door.. They have to run xx number of cars out every week..
If it was me, I would want to wait until everything is dry and there is no more smell coming out from it..

I just had my door repaired. They do bake paint where I went. I was told 60 days before wax. I am going to wait 90 if I can before coating.
Ask the painter,it`s that simple?
