Looks like it may be time for a new carpet????

2012 Chevy Impala. My dad spilled 30% Hydrogen Peroxide and before he found out, the carpet had been bleached and dissolved.

I know there is no getting back the dissolved part, but would a fabric spray paint at least cover up the massive bleached out parts?

Looks like a whole interior carpet can be bought for under $140.

I haven`t had experience with the carpet dye kits, but for $140 I would go with that just to save time and aggravation. Buy him some Weathertech floor mats to save the new carpet once installed.

Sorry this had to happen to your Dad.. :(

Once you get all the Peroxide rinsed out and dried, guess you have to decide if the can of spray is worth a try..
Biggest problem would be getting the color match as close or dead on as possible...
If you could get it to match, then the next thing is perhaps there may need to be touch ups periodically, if any...
The spray can would have to be less expensive than replacing all that carpet...
How perfect does you Dad care about how it looks ?

Getting the WEATHER-TECH mats would hide all but a little bit of the staining/damage .... It`s what *I* would try first.

That`s what I was thinking. Too bad they don`t have the one piece rear mats for that car, it would cover all of the damage and keep it from happening again.

Have you thought about going to a junk yard/auto salvage yard and finding some "used" floor mats and carpet pieces? Being a Chevy Impala, there are probably more cars of this model year and interior color available OR you can check on-line websites for such places. At least consider the OEM floor mat.

Out of curiosity, where is 30% hydrogen peroxide used or even available from? I see that food grade 35% H2O2 is available for about $200 a gallon and used as a chlorine-substitute for disinfecting water in swimming pools.

Replacement, that stuff is super strong. Not sure redyeing would work either.

The only dye that I can think of that MIGHT work would be Rit Dye.
