New to Detailing, i hear this is the place to learn

Hey everyone!

I am 22 years old, and i am the proud owner of a 2003 WRX and a 2005 G35 coupe. The reason i am here is because i know there is so much more to detailing than just washing a car.

The reason i am here is because i love to work on my cars. Sure i could bring my cars to a detailing shop, but why pay them to have all the fun???

Also, driving your car around in Southern California traffic all day your bound to get rock chips, dents, scratches, ect and i want to learn how to fix those imperfections myself. My girlfriend is also constantly scratching her new car so i would like to be able to help her out and fix them.

Anyway, just thought i would say hi.

Well, i have some mothers wax in my garage that i use, but i would like to get some more professional products. I have some major scratches on my subaru and the mothers stuff doesnt come close to what i need.

I also just clay bar'd my cars and man do they feel amazingly smooth.

but there are so many products on this forum. where do i start? I think i'll check out the product review section of this website.

depends on what you want to accomplish. chemical guys, klasse, sonus, jeffs werkstatt, zaino, poorboys, pinnacle, DP, Menzerna, optimum, the list goes on with great brands. you might want to consider investing in a porter cable to tackle the serious scratches and swirls. If you want durability then you'll probably want to lean towards sealants. if you want jaw dropping wet paint, then carnauba might be the ticket. Of course that doesn't mean you can't get a durable carnauba or an awesome look with a sealant either. My advice for someone just getting into detailing would be to look at the meguiars NXT, or duragloss lines. Both provide good results without a large dent in the wallet and both can be found Locally over the counter. meguiars should be everywhere and carquest carries duragloss. or if budget isn't a real issue, pick a brand and start experimenting, almost all of the boutique brands are good. Also you should be using microfiber towels if you aren't already.
