Reasons to hate autopia.

After visiting this website and looking at click and brag, I felt envy. I went to pep boys auto parts and spent countless amounts of money on things the enthusiast on this forum would consider "untouchables"

Meguiars Gold Class wax - 15 bux
Meguiars NXT paste - 18 bux
ScratchX - 9 bux

These products I no longer want to use because I would be wasting my time.

In total I must have spent 310 dollars on detailing products in the last two months because of Autopia.

In total I have spent 108.68 dollars in cleaning supplies

and 202.95 in PC 7424 and pads

totaling $311.63+ in detailing because of the influence on this website

about 42 dollars lost to products I should no longer use.

However I am not here to bash on Autopia, Autopia has to be one of the best detailing sites I have ever visited.

This thread is intended to warn newcomers to do their research before purchasing a product! If you are thinking of purchasing a specific product. Research, make sure to look up that specific product and see others opinions on it. Make a list of pros and cons!

Also not everyones opinion is fact.

Autopia is an addiction that becomes an obsession.

Re: Reasons to hate autopia.

Those are good products, and its a shame you were made to feel you needed to buy "better" products. It has been my experience that many of the boutique products that are hyped on this site are simply overpriced and offer results that are similar to many OTC products. I have everything from cheap OTC stuff to the expensive stuff thats well-liked on this site.

You think you got hosed for buying those products, have you even used them? Why didn't you like them? Or are you just unhappy because people are using $70 jars of wax and you think you need the same stuff to compete? After you polish your car out to a swirl free (or close to it) finish, your car should look amazing already, any decent wax you throw on top of it will only add to that beauty.

If you wanna talk about getting hosed, in my experience, I wasted too much time and money buying overpriced stuff like Souveran.

I don't hate 'boutique' products, because there are some expensive products that work and work well (the Menzerna line comes to mind and that is one of my favorite lines) but there are really great products from "cheaper" companies like Meg's and others. Just cause you can buy it at your local store doesn't mean its junk. Yes, there is lots of junk at your local AutoZone or Pep Boys, but there are some good products sitting on the shelves. I just hate the "Its more expensive and exclusive 'cuz I can only get it online so it must be better" mentality that you see on these forums. What it all comes down to in the end is using a product that works (the products you listed do indeed work, as do many other products out there) and having the skill to use them. If you can afford to use the higher end, more expensive products and you like them, thats great, but there's nothing wrong with the products you listed or those like them.

Its the detailer, not the product.

Oh I'm just a little upset that NXT and gold Class last a week - 3 before its gone. And that I could have gotten better products for the same cost. I didn't mean to rant seriously. Its my own mistake.

Re: Reasons to hate autopia.

My first "good" waxes were Gold Class and the blue OTC Zymol. I actually like how the Zymol looks but it stains trim horribly, I threw it away. I still have the GC and use it for door jams or home appliances. Part of the fun in detailing is trying and comparing different products, so it was not a waste. Just part of the learning process.

Sorry to hear that and I know how it feels. There are stuff that will work and won't work. If you didn't like that wax, I would try a synthetic wax instead. A synthetic wax last long compare to any wax like NXT. IMHO, Klasse twins is one of the best synthetic wax. They last for about 4-6 months. I have not tried what you've used so I can't speak for it. Hope you find a product that you would like most.
