Hello, I'm new here .... directed from a fellow SN member. I had inquired on the body maintenance of my car ('94 GT). My car is Opal Frost Metallic .... a rare color put on Stangs from 1994-1996. It's silver .... but changes to a weird purple/blue type color in certain lighting.

I have NEVER waxed my car, nor any other car I've owned. Just wash & dry it all teh time. I would like to find out how I can make this thing look it's best. I'd like to know the proper tools & waxes to get. I know forum members usually get mad at posts like this & say visit the F.A.Q.'s, sticky's or something ... but I looked & couldn't seem to find them. Any direction to threads about "the basics" would be appreciated.

Guess I'll post some initial pics while I'm at it .......

Aight, I found the Autopia Guide & DL'ed it. I'm reading that right now .... but any other suggestions would be great!!!

I can only voice what so many others on the boards will only echo...Get the Porter Cable, and the right pads and polishes! It's not like a high speed rotary, that can burn paint, but goes in two directions at once, causing a very fast action that is similar to hand application. You're car would look really mean with some depth and reflection, but, until you learn more, I'd at leat go to wal-mart and get some NXT or something and stick on it. Wax is for more than looks, it also provides your paint with protection against the elements.

SeventyMach1: Nice car! It looks like you've kept it pristine. If you are interested in starting out correctly, you've come to the right site.

I would get a "kit" from one of the Autopia advertisers that includes a Porter-Cable random orbital, backing plate, pads, and products.

You're going to be looking at a 4 step process on the paint:

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Polish
4. Wax

Chime in when you have questions.

Awesome 'Stangs guys, makes me ashamed of how much I have neglected mine lately

I have been bitten by the motorcycle bug again and well the Mustang has not gotten the attention she has been used to. The weather is starting to get nice here and I think I will probably do a full detail on her this coming weekend. The bike is apart in the garage for some mods and some maintenance so there shouldn't be any distractions

If you thought modding your car was addicting wait until you start applying your first coats of polishes and waxes.
A good start would be to get a PC7424 kit, that's where I started when I got serious about detailing and I love what I got so it's a good starting point.
If you are low on cash then just get some products at Wal-Mart like the Meguiar's 3-step bottles.
It's not the best but it's affordable and something is better than nothing.
Once you start researching more you will realize and WANT to get better products trust me.
If you can afford some better products then Totoland Mach has a good 1234 step recommendation.
The problem will be which products to get but the more you research the better idea you will get as to what brand(s) will work best for your needs.

Truzoom .... they're 315/35/17's.

I can't imagine this being more addictive than modding a car .... but I have heard NO ONE say that. Everyone says this is extremely addictive .... and moreso than anything else. I hope so. I want my car to look it's best.

BTW, Neo .... thank you for the offer the other day. I'm still considering getting a GOOD job done on the car .... then maintaining it myself. But I think I'm gonna try to attempt it myself first.
