New Noob

Hi Everyone!

I frequent the www.priuschat.com site and that is where I first heard of you. The interface hear looks familiar and I am interested in keeping my vehicles looking nice. So I joined to get help.

I bought a 2005 Driftwood Pearl Toyota Prius in Feb '05 and I love it. I have already had to "rub out" some little dings. My wife drives a 2002 Salsa Red Acura RSX Type S, and it's exterior has taken a real beating. Lots of parking lot dings, and scratches. There is even a bird drop mark on the hood that I can't get rid of.

After I bought the Prius, I immediately began to yearn for more cargo space. We eventually bought a '86 Puke Brown (with cheesy factory stickers) Mazda 2000 pick up. Boy does that exterior look bad. Outside of that 6' bed the best thing about this truck is that we save almost $1,000 a year on insurance because my 17 year old son drives it. So we should recover the $1,500 that we spent to buy it in less than 2 years.

Both of the new cars have dealer installed paint sealant applied. And my first question (that I was unable to google in your search feature) is... How much maintenance should this type of finish require? And what type. Currently all we do is wash them. However, I am dying to teach my son how to detail a car, and we have three great models for him to learn and see the benefit of his labor.

Thanks for the site! Any assistance is more than welcome!

John

Welcome to Autopia!!

MorBid gave some good advise. Research, learn and practice. When you get stuck..just make apost and someone will walk you thru it. Pic's are always nice when a problem comes around.

Welcome aboard Graz!! There's so much info here the best way I found to make sense of it all is to just spend some time here. Cruise around all the different forums and search out any specific questions you might have. Like cwcad said, put up a post and someone out there can help you. There are so many great people out here in Autopia I think you will be very happy here!!!
Jim

Cool

Hi Graz, to Autopia.

If you happen to be within driving distance of Irvine, California the Orange County and San Diego Prius Clubs have a detailing class scheduled at Meguiar's. (It looks filled up but there are usually a few cancellations before any given class and folks on the standby list almost always get to go.)

PC.
