hi newb with a question

Hi I am whitney from Wauwatosa I grew up working on cars and have just began to explore how to take great care of their bodywork. so here's my question

I recently cut and polished my 1992 toyota paseo with a 6 inch craftsman polisher. I used the terry cloth bonnet and 3m rubbing compound 3000 (part no. 06060) I spread the compound on the car with a hand wax applicator and misted it with water before buffing it in. I buffed it until almost dry and then waited for a min to let it completely dry. Once dry i wiped the residue off with a microfiber. I then applied the next compound which was 3m perfect it II (part no. 05973) and followed the same procedure. After I wiped off the second compound I finished the car off with mothers syn wax and about a half hour later ran it through the local touch free wash. The next day I thought the paint looked a tiny bit dull and that was wednesday. Today i got up and little spots of oxidation are beginning to poke through along the edges and other spots i did not buff very well and overall the paint it beginning to fade. The car still does look better than it ever did but still it was looking so nice, like almost brand new, and now it is beginning to look old again.

What am I doing wrong?

also the last person i bought it from said that the car began to oxidize on him so he waxed it with a buffer. I bought it and never washed it until this spring and once i washed it i noticed the oxidation, I washed it again and then the car began to turn pink and hazy white. I have been debating on selling the car so I wanted to look into ways to bring the paint back. I do not want to paint the car because that would cost more than the car is worth.
