Used Dawn on new truck

I have been using Dawn dishwashing soap on my 2 month old Nitro. After reading through the forums I realize that was a mistake. Did I take off the dealers wax with Dawn? Does that mean I have to seal and wax my truck right away? If I do have to reapply then, what is the easiest sealer and wax for a newbie like me to use. Thanks for your help.

Yes it's a simple mistake.

Yes you took off any dealer "crap" they put on the paint.

I'd go to your nearest Napa or Car Quest, and pick up some Duragloss #571 Polish, and #111 Sealant.

While you're down buying that Duragloss, get some of their wash to use instead of Dawn.

Yeah either DG 901 or Meguiars Gold Class would do the job...

Or if you have a Harbor Freight near you go pick up some Collinite 845

Another option is Meguiars Gold Class shampoo and Meguiars NXT 2.0. You can find both anywhere (target,Autozone,walmart..etc) Megs makes fantastic products, over the counter or not.

1. Megs gold class wash
2. Megs clay bar (optional)
3. NXT 2.0
4. Continue to use gold class to wash the car
5. Use Megs Ultimate quick wax after washes and in between NXT 2.0

Pick up some Microfiber products for washing and drying too.

I prefer Optimum products, but Megs is great.

Dawn is good for stripping old wax, leaves the surface squeaky clean and will make your sealant last longer then sealing over some wax IMO. I use it a least once a year with no regrets.

When you wax your car, remember that most have poor durability. With most over the counter stuff, you will need to rewax it again in 4-6 weeks. Good luck.

Re: Used Dawn on new truck

I second the clay bar advice! Even factory finishes are filthy until they are properly clayed.

Read through the forums for a good durable last step protection. Several great options.

Search for LSP.

Remember it does not have to be an old fashioned wax, modern day sealants have firmly established themselves in the last several years.

You didn't take the dealers wax off...because most dealers never put any wax on to start with.

I would wash with a real car wash, clay then wax / seal

Re: Used Dawn on new truck

Thanks guys. I will look for the products. My Nitro is Inferno Red if that makes a difference. Are the micro fiber kits at Kmart and walmart O.K. to use?
I went to Pep Boys and didn't find any on their shelves. They had mothers left on the shelf with a few turtle wax products.

Thanks again for all your input.
