Help on a 2001 Mitsubishi eclipse 4 cyl. GS

Okay so today I found out my battery was dead, so I went to Kragens and got a free one with for warranty. Before that the car died completely. Then I took it for an oil change and they told me that the car was out of antifreeze. Like an idiot with no money I bought antifreeze from a near by shell and used the concentrated grade. I mixed it with water but!, I knew I did it wrong. I heard I had to flush out the radiator till I got a clear flow of water. I need help guy's the car keeps overheating to the point where it shuts off. Me and my fiance were stuck out in LA till 4 am . It got so bad that the plastic container where the antifreeze collects itself melted. I dont know what to do? can anyone tell me how to flush my antifreeze? is there a bleed screw on a hose ? or down under the car? or a instructional video or picture by picture? I don't have a lot of money and I put tons of it towards the car. i would really appreciate if someone can help,

regards,

Abel

Re: Help on a 2001 Mitsubishi eclipse 4 cyl. GS

Welcome, I am only a nube here myself but I think your post is in the wrong forum dude. This is a detailing forum and you are posting a frantic cry for help that is mechanical and vehicle specific.

I have a 2000 Mitsu Eclipse. Go to club 3G forum - it has eclipse specific info that may help you. Also, if you search online you can get a manual on CD in .pdf (acrobat reader) format for about $25 that covers the whole car.

My suggestion is: check along the lower right and left sides of the radiator for a drain - usually a T type fitting going into the radiator. Turn it to drain the radiator - remove the radiator cap first.

Look where the top radiator hose goes into the motor. That is where you should find the thermostat. It is most likely bad and needs to be replaced.

If your motor got hot enough to melt the overflow container then you probably also melted some wires and that is causing a short and your dead battery.

Judging from your post here I would say take it to a garage because you are not capable of doing the diagnosis or repair w/o someone who knows what they are doing there to guide you. That is not a dis just an assessment of your mechanical experience based on this one post.

sorry you are in such a jam w/your babe
