New here from Okinawa!

Just saying hello. I live in Okinawa, probably the most corrosive environment in the world, so I hear, and wanted to register and learn the tricks of the detailing trade.

Will post up pics of my previous rides in a few with more detailed info.

Re: New here from Okinawa!

to Autopia hardcoregonzo! I spent a few months in Okinawa many years ago and enjoyed both the people and the country. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your previous rides.

Re: New here from Okinawa!

Here is the first set of pics. My 2000 Civic Si. Very reliable car and great on gas mileage. Only mods were an AEM Cold Air Intake, Greddy EVO Catback Exhaust, Eibach Sportline Springs, Koni Yellow Adjustable shocks, Type R style ABS wing, and 17 x 7 Axis Maglite with 205/40/17 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's. Best quarter mile time was 15.8. Oh the FWD strugglez. LOL!

Second set of pics is my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII. Yup, sold the Civic and purchased this bad boy. Way too many mods to list, but if any of you guys know the name David Buschur, I was running his Stage 4 setup without the big intercooler and with methanol injection. I pretty much had all the bolt-ons you can have on the stock turbo. Best E.T. was a 12.385 @ 111.91.

YouTube - EVO VIII at LVMS

Third set is the embarrassing one. I had to sell off my EVO because I had orders to Korea, then Japan. Since the car was newer than 1976, I was forbidden from using TMO to ship my car to Japan, even though it was the car's country of origin. So I needed a beater in the mean time to get me to and from work. Can anyone say leopard...LOL! 1980 Datsun 280ZX with over 300,000 miles on a rebuilt original engine. The odo stopped working after 257,333 as stated in the car's title.

Fourth set. Then a year goes by and finally, I find myself in Okinawa, Japan. Hmmm, what kind of car should I buy....LOL! I had my mind made up before I even got there. A 1992 Nissan Skyline GTR aka Godzilla. Only mods to date are HKS Filter kit, MOMO Steering wheel, Apexi Turbo Timer that came with the car and a Veilside turboback exhaust I purchased on the cheap for $279. I also have a set of Tein coilovers that I bought for $450 that I have yet to install. The car had 89,000 original miles when I purchased her.

Well that's it for my introductory thread. Hopefully everyone enjoys the pics. Thanks.

That poor 280ZX! I didn't understand the leopard reference until I got to the interior pictures. Someone really wanted the leopard look and even had the headliner done. Geez, how could someone do that to a Z car?

Are you stationed in Okinawa or have you actually moved there? It is a pretty small island and you're right about the corrosive environment being so close to the sea on all sides.

My wife's uncle had that done only a few before I bought the car from him. It was in decent condition until he did that to it. That car was a nightmare. Lesson learned, never buy a mechanics beater. I had to replace an alternator, battery, injector, all new tires etc... I bought it for $1500 and put about $1500 back into it just to get it road worthy.

I'm stationed out here right now. Any metal that isn't protected might last 5 years out here. No joke. I work on Industrial type A/C equipment and our chillers last 5-7 years at best.

I can when the 25 year time frame comes up, a lot of R32 will start showing up in the states. I'm hoping to keep mine and bring her back with me. Time will tell.
