What size pads is it intended for? I read that the 6.5" Soft Buff work but isn't recommended

It fits the 6.5 inch pads fine. Its the 6 inch pads that are too close to the edge of the BP.

This is a great backing plate....I use it with the 6.5" softbuff pads, but there is a catch. I think the Meguiar's guys say it isn't recomended because the velcro on the plate exceeds the velcro on the softbuff pads...in other words, some of the velcro on the plate touches some of the foam pad itself. I guess with time, and pressure, the velcro can cause the foam to wear. Again, I use this plate myself with the softbuff pads and love it, but it is just something to keep an eye on.

EDIT - I love using it with the LC orange pad....It makes the orange pad feel much more "stable" when buffing paint. I think the extra foam in the backing plate acts as a shock absorber, and keeps these really stiff foam pads from hopping (just a theory).
