Internet connection problem

anyone have this problem? boot the computer cold start up and it says limited or no connection. i dont have internet, but if i unplug and plug the hardwire ethernet cable back in then it finds ip address and it connects. I am not on static IP and im connected hard wired. Seem like i have to do this everytime i start up. why? Why is my computer not getting the ip when i start up? Im not on wireless.

Re: Internet connection problem

Have you got a router?

Probably that.

Routers have an admin web page, something like 192.168.0.1:8080/admin.

have a look there first.

The other option is when it say limited connection open a Dos window type ipcong.

should be three ip addresses - check the gateway address. If all OK, try setting windows to static ip

Re: Internet connection problem

You can use OpenDNS which is a real good service. It provides free phishing filters and more options if you want. This shows how to set your router and computer. -- https://www.opendns.com/start

Re: Internet connection problem

Windows XP? Vista?

Are you unplugging the cat5 from the router or the back of the PC? When was the last time you did a firmware update to your router?

Re: Internet connection problem

i have xp, im unplugging it from the wall basically yes the computer, since computer is in another room. my router is up to date when i check updates on my admin router site. it happened again when i started computer. when i check ip when said limited no connectivity. it showed an ip address i used to use for static for my router. it still wasnt working. its very wierd. i did the ip config release renew and that didnt work. i finally reset my cable modem and then it worked after like few min.
