Yeah, drawing and getting hits (quickly) takes a lot of work, especially with a carry (vs. competition) holster and in street clothes. The good news is that while shooting is a perishable skill, once you really *get it down* a lot of it becomes very ingrained. It's interesting to get evaluated after not having shot for an extended period (e.g., a draw-fire with no practice of any kind- just one chance to do it)...some people retain more skill than others, but nobody who was ever *good* at it has to start back at zero IME.
Heh heh, try the draw/fire after doing a tough round of calisthenics and having a buddy shove you, slap your face a few times, or something like that to get you out of your normal comfort zone. Then have somebody rig the gun to malfunction (in a way you don't know if it will/won't)..some people get rattled and freeze for a moment (going "what the..." ) and it's good to get in the habit of immediately TCB if the gun quits working. Heh heh, that once-a-lifetime dud round will happen when somebody's shooting at you  |
For some fun training try a local IDPA match. One local range has pistol tuesdays for $5 you can shoot in the match. | |
