Anyone else's wash day ruined?

I hardly have time to take car of our cars and today I was actually free to do so, but upon going outside, I noticed how smoky it is from the Malibu fires going on at the moment. It's almost pointless for me to wash any of the cars as the stuff that's in the air is just going to fall back to the ground.

When I applied Optiseal on one of the cars this past summer, it just happened to sprinkle later that evening. It hardly rained here this year and I hardly ever have the time to apply an LSP yet somehow it just happens to occur the same evening. It's almost like someone up above is getting a good laugh out of it.

Re: Anyone else's wash day ruined?

i was going to wash my car today as well, and with the zillion miles an hour wind outside blowing all the dust & debris around, i' guess i'll have to wait...

not to mention... the fires that come with the high winds as well, and all the ash it blows around too...

Re: Anyone else's wash day ruined?

yeah I just went outside and decided to just apply some leather conditioner and compared to earlier this morning, the car is covered in ash/dust. I guess I'll take that compared to being one of those cars or structures they're showing on the news being burned down.

I'm *south* of the smoke/ashes and they're clearly visible but there's no ashes and no wind. Color me lucky I guess.

Yeah it was 77 here in Ohio.

Is that smoke acidic at all? Kind of like pollen. Once it gets wet, it gets really acidic.

I hear ya... I'm right in the middle of it. I saw the huge smoke plume from the Castaic fire this morning. Then, this afternoon, the Agua Dulce fire kicked into high gear. Right now, I can see the horizon all aglow (on fire) from my driveway. Looks to be about 5 miles away, up-wind from me. The ash & soot are chokingly bad. The spa is now full of crud. This is what it looked like from my back yard (southward) just before sunset...

Won't be getting much sleep tonight... sirens running up & down Bouquet Canyon Road every 2-3 minutes. The evacuation center is about a mile up the road from me. Hope the fires don't get this far down, tho would kindof be a hoot to pull into an evacuation site in this...

"no matter what, SAVE THE COBRA!"

Re: Anyone else's wash day ruined?

Seriously. I'm in Irvine and theres fire just NE of the city boundaries. My house is pretty safe but I've friends living over there. Nothing ruins a detail day like friends possibly in jeopardy. The ash is huge bummer too. It's all over. The worst part of the ash on my car is that my car doesn't have an in-cabin filter; there's a very fine layer of ash on the interior too. It makes breathing a bit of a chore.

Not to mention, some serious drought here in SoCal. I gotta get me some ONR. I haven't washed my car since early September.

Re: Anyone else's wash day ruined?

slick61, that's gotta be pretty scary to be that close to the fires. that picture is eery yet cool at the same time. Your Cobra is beautiful, but if you're forced to evacuate, I just want to see you and your loved ones make it out safely. The car can always be replaced!

phamkl, sorry to hear that some of your friends are very near the Irvine fire. my prayers will be with all of those affected by these fires.

btw, i HIGHLY recommend getting an in-cabin filter. They're somewhat expensive $30-40, but well worth the money once you see how much it actually filters out. Your engine's air filter looks relatively clean compared to how much an in-cabin filter actually traps and filters.

Re: Anyone else's wash day ruined?

Thanks. I'm just glad that I can do the praying from a distance. Thankfully all the developments around there are pretty new so they were designed with fire safety in mind which has kept these areas fairly safe.

What scares me though is the 360 degree view of fire plumes. They're everywhere! God bless the fire fighters.

Re: Anyone else's wash day ruined?

Everyone keep safe! I can see some of the fire outside my brother's window, but it's being contained well and it's not much of a threat..
