Rechargeable Razer
Haven't used an electric razer in 25 years and didn't like it much, irritated the skin. Am now thinking about a Christmas present to myself of a Braun Shaver 700 series, about $249. Do any of you have experience with an electric? For this money I would think it would give a good shave. It ia almost the top of the line in Braun shavers. Comments welcome.

Re: Rechargeable Razer
I have two Braun 7000-series razors, a 7570 and a 7540 that I inherited one from my dad. Both are pretty old, and maybe the current versions are better, so with that disclaimer:
They work OK but the "better" (scare-quotes intentional) 7570 starts to slow down after just a few shaves, so I end up recharging it frequently which probably makes the problem worse (memory-effect and all that).
The 7540 keeps cutting at a high speed for many shaves and is the better of the two for that reason.
Maybe my 7570 is defective..I keep meaning to take it in for a new battery pack but I never get around to it.
I do prefer them to a blade and to the other electrics I've tried, but that's just me and I don't shave too close (ingrown hairs/etc.), preferring to shave twice a day if necessary.
The auto-cleaning station is so-so. It doesn't really clean mine nearly as well as doing it manually, but the cleaning solution does keep things sorta-OK-clean with zero effort and it also lubes things OK. Smells pretty nice too. But Park's Shave-Ease (sp? They might spell it goofy) lubes well too, and it also has a nice scent.
If I were as dissatisfied with them as it probably sounds, I'd have replaced them by now, so I recommend them but with reservations.
FWIW, I tried a high-end Panasonic (almost certain that was the brand) that *should've* been much better but I simply hated it for the reasons you didn't like electrics; that surprised me but hey, IMO this is one *VERY* individual call and you can't read *too* much into somebody else's preferences.

Re: Rechargeable Razer
I have the Braun 8595 and find its the best electric shaver I have tried. But, that being said, I have gone back to wet shaving. Just seems to be a better overall feeling when I'm done.

Re: Rechargeable Razer
I have a Phillips Speed XL electric and I am fairly happy with it. I use it with a lubricating spray that guides it along. Without the spray, it will drag and is generally unpleasant to use. I don't know if that's the same with all electrics or not. It's not afraid of water and easy to clean. Press a button and an attachment comes out to trim your beard.
Performance-wise, I think I might get a slightly better shave manually, but a manual razor is much more costly over the long run, must be replaced frequently, requires soap or shaving foam, and it can't trim your beard. In order to match performance, I have to go over an area in different directions to catch every hair.
I hope that helps. I'm happy with mine.

Did it hold its charge/maintain top speed well over the course of many shaves?

Re: Rechargeable Razer
I have the top model Braun from last year....I think it's the 8595, which I believe is the equivalent to the 790cc. It is the best electric shaver I have ever owned. I wouldn't use anything else.

Re: Rechargeable Razer
I have been using the 7000 series for about 7 or 8 years now. Nothing else can handle my coarse hair. I can get a closer cut than with a mach3, and that is important to me because I get a 5PM shadow at 10AM. Be prepared for buying the refills. One lasts about a month for me and I empty my shavings before I put it in the base for cleaning.

Re: Rechargeable Razer
Well I went out to the local Walmart and they ahd a roll-back price of $239. Cdn. Seems to be the best price around here without buying from the U.S. via the internet. Its the 9595 model. I think I have to take a 2 week course to learn how to use it. If you hear screaming, than its not working out too great. Thanks for your comments guys.

Unless it's a Christmas gift, you should wait for Boxing day. There must be a sale on for it then.
