My Braun razors *absolutely* do behave that way. I started recharging the 7570 more often to keep its speed up, and the problem got worse, meanwhile the 7540, which I always run down, continues to work like new

Huh, mine's not like that. A few-days'-growth can be a hassle to mow through, but as long as the charge isn't really low the blade never comes close to stopping.

One of these days I'll get around to having them serviced and we'll see what happens then.
I'd bet that you have a weak or defective cell in your razor. My 8595 does not slow down until the very last of the battery's juice is depleted. I can run it for a week or two without recharge easily.

NiMH batteries do have a memory effect but it is slight and responds to deep cycle refreshing.

Memory: myth or fact?

Re: Rechargeable Razer

I've got an 8985 and love it. It does not get as close as my Mach 3, but it cuts time in half. It's great for the morning, but I do get the 5 o'clock shadow by lunch.

I would buy another in a heartbeat.

As a side not, I have tried many different electric razors, and the only one I have really liked are the Braun's.

Re: Rechargeable Razer

jfelbab- Thanks for that link, very informative!

But at ~$2,500 I don't think I'll be buying the reconditioning equipment any time soon

Re: Rechargeable Razer

I have had a Braun 7526 with the clean/renew base since 2004. I have replaced the metal cutter three times and the freaking base twice. I have had it with the base! The stupid arm locking mechanism keeps breaking so it doesn't stay down to clean/charge the unit. I use tap on it instead. Only reason I keep using it is because I like the shave. Not as close to the Mach 3 blade as mentioned above, but it saves time. I have had it offs its base for weeks at a time and can get about 2 weeks from it (shaving every other day) before needing to plug it into the wall. Performance dropped at the 5th or 6th shave without the base. Keep it on the base to clean/charge and it'll be ready every time.

My next purchase will be the Braun activator series where on the base there is no arm to break.

Yikes, wouldn't have expected the base to go bad.

On the cutter bar/screen, I replace mine annually.
