I'm sure there are members here who are better than him but Paul is a marketing genious!
I strive to replicate his business plan in Melbourne Australia.
Marketing to and capturing all of the ultra high end car market would be the best thing imaginable.
You dont even have to be the best detailer. Some people may very well get the car swirl free in half the time as me due to superior technique. However with high end clients they will pay for my time to get it 99.9% perfect, no matter how long i take.

I always enjoy seeing David Fermani and gmblack3a's work...plus, both were helpful and took time to answer some questions for me when I was setting up my business.
I admire Scottwax's work and write ups. epbcivicsi and totolandmach are definitely the go to guys for black cars. TH0001's dedication and attention to the small details is also impressive.
Man, this post could go on forever...there are so many great detailers on this site.

There is one that is rarely mentioned, though.... Our own Mayor of Autopia, Dave Bynon!
It is his vision and passion about detailing that keeps bringing more Autopian into the fold!

I'll be honest, I get pretty bored looking at C&B photos cause they're all pretty much the same.
I detail (I dunno, maybe that's no the right word.) I clean cars for a living. On a professional level, I'd say I'm about a 3/10. I can do a lot of things to impress a lot of people, but I find I just don't take the time that I should to learn how to do things properly.
Maybe I need to spend some time with some higher up detailers...but those kinda guys are a RARE breed around town...
I don't remember names well, but the 3 come to mind almost instantly are scottwax, david fermani, and accumulator! My hat's off to all 3 of these gentlemen. They bring a lot of wisedom and experience to the table, and that's worth way more than a few pictures of shiny cars!

Who is your favorite detailer or detailers and who also inspires you?
You can have as many as you want.
Me being a pro with tons of experience, I still try to inspire myself (not much fun staring at your own pictures though), but it's always fun to be inspired by others work too. It puts the fun into detailing and makes you push harder and harder to succeed to the top. I really enjoy a bunch of other detailers work here.
No matter how much of a pro you are, you still have to be inspired by someone else, or your not human
Keep up the great work everyone
Thanks

Guys like you Ryan. You have taken me from the mold of stereotypical dealership hack into something else altogether. To be honest until about two years ago i thought i was the whip. Then i came to autopia and learned a thing or (well about a million things really.) Now im that guy that gets upset when someone slams a guy for working at a dealership. Now I'm no rydawg, but i put out respectable work and im always trying to improve . So thanks to everyone here for straightening me out and just remember we are not all dealership hacks, i like to think im the only one thats not, but in my area noe one can believe the quality of work i do and its all thanks to you guys and i tell them that every chance i get.

There is a lot to experience working at a dealer or doing work for dealers. You get to experience all the neglected finishes and have to work smart and hard. I use to do a lot of dealer cars for a few dealers and I have seen the absolute worst there is and I personally learned a lot teaching myself and pushing myself harder and harder to become what I am today.
Remember, your best teacher is yourself! The power is in the hands!

I went from being an average joe who washed the family cars and dried with bath towels and terry cloths to being a completely ocd about preserving the paint finish and preventing the causing of any marring by using the 2 bucket method, high quality microfibers, etc.
Seeing work by some of the pros inspired me to get my own porter cable and then picking up a rotary to take it to the next level. When I see details done by guys like TH0001, Rydawg, Picus, Toto, Scottwax, just to name a few, it motivates me to refine my techniques so that some day I can turn out work that is half as good. Gotta love autopia!
