Re: Who is your favorite detailer or most inspired by?

For detailing skill, most of the names already mentioned are excellent. For the business and marketing side, I would have to say Gary Kouba and Frank Canna.

epcivicsi, 01bluecls, tdekany, Superior Shine, Mike Phillips, Anthony Orosco, Picus and Accumulator are the people whose threads I seek out first.

Re: Who is your favorite detailer or most inspired by?

Here's my choices on the detailers that inspired me the most:
Curtis Branham - 1st person I hired back in 1990, still working for us today. Never misses a single day of work, has 7 kids, is a human work-horse, works 7 days a week from morning to night, does incrdible work, great with cutomers and other workers, will do anything to any vehicle without complaining once, "6-4" and can rub out the whole side of a small vehicle with only moving over 1 time. Major asset to our company.

Monique Morris - (female) - similar to Curtis in the respect to drive and passion, but is the absolute faster person I've ever seen detail the inside of a vehicle (even a conversion van!). She worked for me for about 4 years and then opened up her own car wash. The biggest thing was when she was pregnant, she worked up until the day before she had her baby, and NOBODY in the shop knew she was pregnant (just me)!! It was the winter time and she wore baggy shirts and was bone skinny. She returned back the work 3 WEEKS after having her baby & everyone freaked out. She was the portrait of the shop and everyone's ability was compared to her's (she pissed off alot of people).

Rick Shmitt - (Director of Training @ Auto Magic) - the most knowledgeable person I know in detailing today. Has an extensive background in paint refinishing & chemistry and has the most perfect techniques when detailing a vehicle. Has the right answer to every question related to detailing and is a wealth of information. It's amazing to see him in action during his training seminars and has a real nack for teaching/helping people. Has helped and taught most of my long-term employees the right way to recondition a vehicle. He travels the world (not just US) training large/small groups of people how to recondition vehicles via Auto Magic products.

As far as people on this forum, I'd have to say Accumulator is the most entertaining person. I love reading his posts and get a real kick out of his ability to express his thoughts/ability through his posts. Even though he keeps saying he's not a Pro, I don't belive it for 1 minute. He might not post before and after pictures of his work (like alot here), I know he knows his stuff. He the most anal, over the top Autopian on this site and I nominate him as the spokesperson for it! Does anyone know his real name?

01bluecls is my favorite. Amazing skills, beautiful cars and nice photography put him at the top of my list. Always get excited when I see one of his threads.

G35stilez I admire a lot, because of how thorough his work is and of course the excellent results.

Scottwax of course I have to mention, excellent work and you can always count on him to have a fresh click and brag every few days.

Lots of others, too, but those are my top 3.

I would have to say Richard, I know him from a MINI forum 1st and foremost. His posts are always thought out and insightful. He always helps out everyone from the 'could be pros' to the 'it rained yesterday, my car is clean now'. Hooray for Richard!

Re: Who is your favorite detailer or most inspired by?

The one that comes to my head is Picus. If there is one detailer I'd want to be, it'd be him with out a doubt. When I see his Click & Brags, I actually get excited.

Other notables that do AMAZING jobs:
-Scottwax
-G35stilez
-01bluecls
-tdekany
-Superior Shine

I am sure there are PLENTY more I am forgetting.

Also for any information I could ever need, I know Accumulator will most likely have the answer. So he's my go-to guy for advice.

Re: Who is your favorite detailer or most inspired by?

After spending a bit of time on this one, I've decided not to post a list as I *KNOW* I'll forget/remember people and end up editing it over and over....so I hope that the people whom I respect know it from my posts/PMs. Heh heh, I'm a little...uhm..frugal with my praise so when I give somebody a it's well-deserved and I assume they appreciate it (just as I appreciate the feedback that I receive, both positive and negative).

And no, I've never gotten around to doing the image posting thing (showing stuff on my silver vehicles is incredibly tough anyhow) although Accumulatorette has been playing around with digital pics of the dogs that I'll probably end up sharing.

I keep hoping somebody will stop in at Stoddard Imports (Willoughby, OH) or Euro-Car/ECS Tuning (Norton, OH) when I have something in for work. The Jag is in semi-hibernation at Growler Restorations (also in Cleveland), if anybody wants to check it out.

And, like my sticking with "Accumulator", it's also a persec issue. I'm a rather security-conscious person in general and, well, I don't want pics of me/my vehicles or (especially) my shop and home floating around the internet.

Nah, not even close. We have people here whose work could put me on the trailer any day, and who appreciate subtle differences that I'd never even think of. The guys who debate differences in gloss between finishing polishes via rotary, or the differences between the Zymol Estate Glazes, are on a whole 'nother level than I am. And then there are the people who wash all the time and who take off healthy LSPs just to try something different...I'll still maintain that I'm just a "practical perfectionist" who enjoys discussing this stuff.

I may well be the most over-the-top with regard to me regular washes though
