Good advertising??

A short back story.....

I saw a nice *new* black corvette parked in a store parking lot the other day. It was nice and shiny, but was LOADED with swirl marks I could tell that the owner takes pride in their vehicle (LOTS of wax and tire dressing), but either lacked the tools or the knowledge to correct the imperfections in the paint. I can fix that

Then I started to notice a LOT of cars going down the road in the exact same condition: JUST waxed, and full of swirls and scratches.

Anyway, I had a thought, Why not make up business cards that say something to the effect of:

(need to work on symantics and language)

Sir/madam,
You have a beautiful automobile, but the swirl marks detract from the vehicles beauty. I can fix the imperfections and restore/ improve the paint to better than new, while leaving that "wet look". yadda yadda yadda

I think it's a good idea, it allows me to "pick and choose" my demographic, while avoiding the 4X4 mudders after a big weekend.

Wife thinks it is presumtious and makes me look like an "ambulance chaser". What do Y'all think? Good idea, or bad?

Well, sorry but I've got to agree with your wife. Think about it. What do you usually do with handouts/cards that are left on your car? Toss em? It'd be different if you had the opportunuty to speak to the owner, compliment him/her on the car and then tell educate them about how the car should/could look. It'd be even better if you were parked really close to them so you could show them. On the other hand, it's a cheap enough experiment and you could let the rest of us know how it worked out for you. Change the word "fix" to "remove" and "leaving" to "creating" or something like that. A website address would be mandatory so those that were even remotely interested would have a place to preview your work. Good luck with your decision. Sounds a little better as some have said (wife and by PM) that the first one basically called the owner a dirtbag. and worthless at taking care of his/her own vehicle.

P.S. I haul fuel 5 days a week and see most of these cars then. I only detail 2 days a week.

I've gotten a lot of business by handing out my card with a hand written note on the back that says "I'd be honored to maintain your vehicles appearance."

I don't think you need to make a card saying a bunch of words. I think a simple business card tucked onto their windshield would do. No need in bashing the condition of their cars paint. Most people aren't educated enough to even know *** swirl marks are, so how are they going to know when you leave them a car saying "I'll get rid of the swirls" they'll say "swirls... *** is he talking about?"

I agree with that....When i am trying to explain to people about swirl and RDS i describe them as tiny scratches and they said ''No i don't have scratches on my car,except that little one here'' until i switch on the Halogens .
They cannot understand what the swirls, haze and dirty paint is...If there is no deep scratch on their car they think is perfect....
