Auto Auction/Show

I have been watching on my DVR several car auction shows (RM and Mecham) and have been SHOCKED by the paint quality of these high end collections and super high end collections. The cars are covered in swirls, some even with halograms. Yet..........the cars look great under the lights as far as shine goes.
Are they wiping them down with some oil based QD or what?

Second frustration is seeing cars win awards yet the paint sucks. We have the states largest car show and last year the cars in the shows are mainly covered in issues. I am trying to get on the judging this year to help improve that, but they are resistant.

How as a community can we help? I think it can only help us too.

Re: Auto Auction/Show

Since getting into detailing I have always found myself critiquing paint on almost every car I see. Its the curse of the detailer.

Same for me too...My friends used to tell me about the powerful cars on the magazines...Know the call to tell me about swirled cars on the magazines..

Re: Auto Auction/Show

nothing you can do...

i have detailed a couple show cars and they looked better than new cars on the show floors...yet all the people I talk to say take a look at this car, that is a show car paint job/detail...I try talking them into paint correction work and explain that the car I detailed looks 100 times better than that specific one and the person just sighs...

all the "show car" owners think they know it all..i try to "discuss" the right way to detail and they laugh..."I'm doing too much work, I should just wash, glaze, wax...no need for compounding..."

at the last show I was at I gave up after the 5th "show car" owner said that to me....

Re: Auto Auction/Show

The judges must be over looking the paint issues, or they(owners) would have to address them.
