Removing swirl marks by hand effective?

I was looking at this guys detailing webpage and notice that he claims that "I am extremely knowledgeable on how to properly remove swirl marks. Everything is done BY HAND! No machine buffers, EVER!"

You think he's really doing it by hand or hiding it? Heres the guys website..

Why clients choose GLOSS Auto Detialing

Re: Removing swirl marks by hand effective?

I looked at the website briefly but didn't see any explaination of how he proceeds to do paint correction "by hand"??

I didn't see any before and afters either. If he's so knowledgeable he should let it be known since nobody else seems to know how?

Josh

Re: Removing swirl marks by hand effective?

That is just how he is differentiating his service. He is capitalizing on the belief that hacks with buffers make paint look worse by inducing buffer swirls. Good work can be done by hand, however, using a machine properly produces much better results.

I tell my customers we "hand wax" just like your favorite restaurant give you "home cooking".

It can be done and used to in the old lacquer paint days. It would take for ever I am certain.

Re: Removing swirl marks by hand effective?

Here is some useless information about working by hand. In the middle 1930s, the Cords were painted with lacquer. After the paint dried ,to make them shine they had to be polished with rubbing compound. This was done at the factory by hand, because the managment though it would be to hard to teach people how to use a buffer.

Re: Removing swirl marks by hand effective?

You can remove swirls by hand on softer paints, good luck on an Audi or ceramicleared Mercedes.

And seriously, W T F?

"The sealer process is three steps (Polish, seal, polish again). This is why this detail takes so long. Many so called detailers do not perform these three steps, leaving the sealent looking un-even."
