I just dont see the point of having someone make up your advertising stuff if you are perfectly capable of doing it yourself and you get the desired results.

Josh said a mouthful here. If someone does their own and gets the results they desire why would they look elsewhere? On the other hand if that same person is still looking for work after trying this a few times maybe it is time to seek assistance.

Man whatta thread. I took pictures and made some illustrations ( I have a background in graphic arts and media management) and printed up 100 flip books. Like the animation ones you used to use in grade school. It was of me taking a beater and making it a show car. At the end was my information and some pull out pages as business cards with a little more on them. I then went into several banks, doctors' offices, investment buldings, etc (even the local cloister) and placed them in the bathroom stalls as reading material. I got a lot of emails and calls about it and a good many leads. I've done similar things with match books in bars with a phone number on the inside cover. Also with photgraphs. I've taken pictures of happy people with their freshly detailed cars and before their cars were detailed. Made several copies of the pictures. Then I wrote a message like "if found call this phone number or report the pictures as found on XXXXX.com" that took them to my detailing website. it was fun and again generated a lot of jobs.

^^I was contemplating a new idea for this year. I am planning to find out specific dates that certain auto manufacturers began operating. Then, on those dates, pic a parking garage level or an affluent city block, and doing an OptNR, window, and tire dressing detail of all cars by that manufacturer. I would then Place a happy birthday card with the relevance of the dte to their car manufacturer on their windshield. along with my card. I would also be wearing my company polo and dockers along with a typed paper explaining what I am doing (and a menu) in case anyone thought I was vandalizing. We have small city blocks. I think I'd wait until evening, to make sure people wouldn't be leaving for the next 20-30 minutes.

I responded to this thread because I've used Scottwax on my Porsche and was very happy with his work.
doged started pm'ing me about my post. I eventually asked him to pm a link to his site - he refused, became defensive and told me not to pm him again. He stated he wanted to preserve his anonymity . lol In this thread he said "I do 15,000 mailers in 6 weeks time frames" but he wants to preserve his anonymity . lol Yes, I'm sure its because of the many stalkers on Autopia and not the fact that he doesn't have a hugely successful detailing business. :-)

But he expected at least three people here to provide their employment history and information, and asked Scott to show him his books. . . . LMAO

maybe he doesn't need a hugely successful detailing business, after all let us not forget that he is a retired marketing guru with a patented and rights' sold dog toy-- he's a millionaire probably.
he's probably not a detailer at all, just a forum troll barking marketing advice to people who never wanted to be barked at-- all under the guise of truth and honesty and tryin' to help a brutha out. his 15,000 mailers cost him $5,850 (did I multiply wrong??)!! that was over 6 weeks? what about the rest of the year? people may not know marketing, but they sure can add dollars and sense......and let me tell you where the last 15,000 fliers that have been sent to my house have gone-- for whatever they've been. my 'stunts' have never cost me more than $100.
all of my comments are my own opinion of course and completely unsolicited, but here they are for all to see. I think highly of Scottwax and many others on these boards and I think lowly of members like doged.

 Hi Jim!
If I remember right, you found out about me from another client or the internet, right? Certainly wasn't a direct mailer.

I believe I made a mistake in judgement with you guys and im sorry. My goal was to show and to help, not piss off. Yes im who I say I am and I have done all that I say. I have this thing about Anonymity and the net, that is not going to change. My screwed up problem is, I have been doing business with people with my business attitude most of my life. It’s what I walked away from and that’s why I opened my own detailing company. I wanted to change my business attitude although it rears it’s ugly head from time to time.
I do not want to sell anyone on this forum anything. Actually it’s the opposite you have helped me with product knowledge. Scottwax, you sure can make a persons car look nice and I wish I had 5 of you working for me.
The dog toy, I didn’t make even close to 1/3 of a million but then again it was a fantastic learning experience. If you guy’s want me to help you with your car or door flyers so they will make a greater effect, then I will. If I get out of line with my attitude then please tell me. I am pleased to help.
Thanks
-D

I'm too much of a skeptic and I'm not buying it, sorry.
The web makes it easy for one to proclaim greatness and belittle others, then in a single post one can fix all the trash they've written. For someone who claims to desire anonymity you've tried very hard to get others to give it away. To assume that you are the teacher of members of this forum without being asked is incredibly arrogant. What was posted in this thread wasn't simply sharing information, tips or skills. It used to be that if you were to make claims, you were willing to back them up. It's the old saying of "put up" or "shut up". There was no hiding behind anonymity, if that's what you really wanted you didn't say anything. It's a shame that this mindset doesn't apply today. Though an appology might be accepted by members of this forum it doesn't automatically make one credible.
And for me, I'm next to dirt and have no redeemable qualities whatsoever.
Stepping down from my soap box.
