As anyone had any luck hiring professional detailers for employment on this site?

Not sure as most of what you use for the discription, are they or aren't they?
As you know from years of running a successful detailing operation, most of the one's that come through the door have a hard time understanding that their "hack ways" are not what you expect.
They, for the most part, are not open to learning process, understanding that your shop is way beyond what they know about a professional business of the detailing world.
I always found it better to take on a person who know's nothing and teach them your way.
Less arguments, less turn over.
Most have no idea of what the average customers really expects, or, what it is that they actually require, how to "sell" them in a manner that gets the deal, etc.

Agreed. Some of the best Detailers are the ones you can sculpt and mold into gems. Hiring the "experienced" Detailer is many times just a revolving door due to their lazy habits. Nothing sucks more then hiring someone that can threaten the stability of your technicians by perpetchuating negativity.
As far as finding someone on Autopia.....not sure, but be my guest to put up a thread in the regional forums that you're hiring. I'm sure Autopia is great for finding someone that can help out on a specific project though. Please join in on our Chat Room every Wednesday @ 5pm PST / 8pm EST

Re: Hiring
Every now and again someone will post something up here on the boards, but I don't know if anyone's ever been hired thru the site. All I know is that if I saw one locally, I'd be awfully tempted to apply, as much as I love my current career path, there's just way too much drama and bs not to mention stresses and hazards that come with the territory....especially for the pennies we make!

And there are the "benefits" that go with your present job, few detail shops offer such to employees.

Gina, as you are aware, you are the exception, not the rule.
So many shops start up and go under in a year or so, no money, no future.
Your shops have operated profitably for years, not like the majority.

Re: Hiring
Here is part of an ad i saw advertising for detailers ... Smokers working with one hand need not apply. Cellphone addicts don't waste yours or my time. > Apparently this cell phone business is out of control... I had another detailing company tell he he hired a detailer who kept talking on the phone every 10 minutes... so he reminded him he was talking on company time... the guy took a tool threw it at him and said I am conducting my private business do not interrupt me.

Re: Hiring
Automania, where are you located again! Ron.....my bennie's aren't all that great, most providers here in my county including me work at least two jobs and quite a few work more. Folks at McD's and Wally World make as much if not more then we do. We have a pretty low retention rate and a high divorce rate because of this. It can be very rewarding.....no doubt about it, but it can also burn you out beyond recognition when you deal with scum and incompetent providers day in and day out......did I mention I hate politics......especially EMS politics!!! I'll never leave this gig fully, but as a full time gig, it's barely putting food on the table!

Re: Hiring
We banned cell phones from the shop work area and all employees have signed a company cell phone policy that states 1 chance and you're out. Catch you with your phone out once you get sent home and a written warning. Second offense = termination. Our local health department handled the smoking issue - no smoking anywhere in the workplace or within 15 feet of any entrance. I make it simple - don't care if you smoke...on your time and off my property. I've learned via 19 years of doing this that a strong policy being enforced from minute 1 keeps problems to a minimum.
